Alan L. Light (b. September 15, 1953) is a publisher involved in comics and pop culture fandom. He is best known as the founder of ''The Buyer's Guide for Comic Fandom'' (later known as the '' Comics Buyer's Guide''), which was the longest-running English-language periodical reporting on the American comic book industry. Publishing ventures Light grew up in the Quad Cities region of Illinois and Iowa; his first foray into publishing was as a 16-year-old when he produced the comics fanzine ''All Dynamic Magazine''. San Diego Comic-Con International is a comic book convention and nonprofit multi-genre entertainment event held annually in San Diego, California since 1970. The name, as given on its website, is Comic-Con International: San Diego; but it is commonly known simply as Comic-Con or the San Diego Comic-Con or SDCC. The convention was founded as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970 by a group of San Diegans that included Shel Dorf, Richard Alf, Ken Krueger, Ron Graf, and Mike Towry; later, it was called the "San Diego Comic Book Convention", Dorf said during an interview that he hoped the first Con would bring in 500 attendees. Mark Martin (cartoonist)
Mark Martin (born January 21, 1956) is an American cartoonist known for lighthearted humor and satire. He grew up in Leeds, Alabama. Career Martin's first major work in the 1980s was ''Gnatrat'', a parody of Batman, featuring a rat who dresses as a gnat to fight crime. He went on to work on the ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' series, and created "20 Nude Dancers 20," a long-running humor strip featured in ''Comics Buyer's Guide''. As an editor, Martin created the anthology ''Hyena'' and briefly oversaw a humor section in '' Heavy Metal''. He also edited the first edition of Scott McCloud's ''Understanding Comics''. Fred Hembeck
Fred Hembeck (born January 30, 1953) is an American cartoonist best known for his parodies of characters from major American comic book publishers. His work has frequently been published by the firms whose characters he spoofs. His characters are always drawn with curlicues at the elbows and knees. He often portrays himself as a character in his own work, in the role of "interviewer" of various comic book characters. Marc Hansen (born 1963) is a cartoonist and creator of Ralph Snart, Weird Melvin and Doctor Gorpon. He has been published by comic book companies such as NOW Comics, Marvel Comics, Marvel/Epic Comics, Epic, Disney Comics (publishing), Disney, Malibu Comics, Malibu Graphics and Kitchen Sink Press. Ralph Snart is his most successful creation that began in 1986, which had newsstand and direct market distribution. It peaked at 50,000 copies per month with over one million comics in print.
