Dwayne Umbarger
Dwayne D. Umbarger (August 2, 1952) is a former Republican member of the Kansas Senate, representing the 14th district from 1997 until 2013. He has been the Assistant Majority Whip since 2003. In 1995 and 1996, he was on the ANW Special Education Board in Humbolt, Kansas. He was also a School Board member for the Consolidated Unified School District #101 in Erie from 1994 to 1996. Chanute, Kansas
Chanute () is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. Founded on January 1, 1873, it was named after railroad engineer and aviation pioneer Octave Chanute. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 8,722. Chanute is home of Neosho County Community College. History In 1870 when the Leavenworth, Lawrence & Galveston Rail Road (later the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, now the BNSF Railway) crossed the Missouri, Kansas and Texas line within the limits of Neosho county four rival towns sprang up, in the vicinity of the junction: New Chicago, Chicago Junction, Alliance, and Tioga. Two years of the most bitter animosity ensued until the four were consolidated in 1872, and the name of Chanute given it in honor of Octave Chanute, a railroad civil engineer. Kansas's 14th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Republican Bruce Givens since 2017; Givens was defeated in the 2020 primary election by Michael Fagg. Geography District 14 covers Chautauqua, Coffey, Elk, Greenwood, Wilson, and Woodson Counties and parts of Butler, Cowley, and Montgomery Counties in the Flint Hills to the east of Wichita. Communities in the district include El Dorado, Burlington, Eureka, Neodesha, Fredonia, Sedan, Yates Center, Douglass, Towanda, Howard, and part of Winfield. It enrolls approximately 7,400 students (6,000 undergraduates and 1,400 graduate students) and is a member of the Kansas Board of Regents.
