Dutch Rugby Union
The Dutch Rugby Union ( nl, Rugby Nederland) is the governing body for rugby union in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1932 and became affiliated to the International Rugby Football Board, in 1988 known as the International Rugby Board and now as World Rugby. Netherlands Men's Rugby are ranked 25th (on 12 October 2019) in the world according to World Rugby. Rugby Europe
Rugby Europe is the administrative body for rugby union in Europe. It was formed in 1999 to promote, develop, organise, and administer the game of rugby in Europe under the authority of World Rugby (the sport's global governing body). However, it is not responsible for the organisation of the Six Nations Championship or the competitions run by European Professional Club Rugby (the European Rugby Champions Cup and Challenge Cup). The predecessor to Rugby Europe was the Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur (FIRA), which was established in 1934 to administer rugby union in Europe outside the authority of the International Rugby Football Board (as World Rugby was then called), and came to spread outside the continent. FIRA agreed to come under the auspices of World Rugby in the 1990s, and appended 'Association Européenne de Rugby' to its name in a return to being a European body. Sylke Haverkorn
Sylke Haverkorn (born 6 April 1988) is a Dutch rugby union coach and former national player. Early life Sylke Haverkorn was born in Enschede, Netherlands, on 6 April 1988. Haverkorn started her sports career by performing judo, tennis and football. She later switched over to rugby. Playing career Club Between 2012 and 2016, she played for Rugbyende Utrechtse Studenten (RUS), the only all-female student rugby club in the Netherlands, and later for De Hanzeladies. She won five consecutive premier division titles with her teams. International She was also a permanent member of the Netherlands national rugby team. Coaching career Club In 2016, she took over the coaching position at RUS from Dj Verlinden, who had served ten years in the post. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. The Netherlands national rugby union team ( nl, Nederlands nationaal rugby team) represents Netherlands in men's international rugby union competitions. Netherlands National Rugby Sevens Team
The Netherlands national rugby sevens team is a minor national sevens side. They have competed in the Hong Kong Sevens since the 1980s. They are traditionally seen as "minnows", but have not been completely unsuccessful. EURFC member Rob Cuthbertson has been recently added to the squad after a successful trip to Casablanca. Having had previous experience at international level with England it is hoped that he will add some much needed talent to the squad. The Netherlands women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side of Netherlands, representing them at rugby union. The side first played in 1982. History The Netherlands' women's national rugby union team hosted the first ever women's international women's rugby union match. This match took place in Utrecht on June 13, 1982. France won against the Netherlands with 4–0. The Netherlands made their debut at the 1991 World Cup. They finished in 7th place out of 12 teams. The Netherlands women's national rugby sevens team participated in the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup in Hong Kong losing to Spain in the Plate semi-finals, they finished 8th overall. In October 2012, the Netherlands was announced by the International Rugby Board as one of six "core teams" that will compete in all four rounds of the inaugural IRB Women's Sevens World Series in 2012–13. The team finished seventh in the standings. It was later decided that the quarter-finalists at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens would make up the eight core teams for the next series later that year.
