Dungworth
Dungworth (archaic ''Dungeworth'',) is a hamlet in the civil parish of Bradfield, west of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. The village also gives its name as a surname; a 'Dungworth' is recorded living at the nearby village of Storrs in 1323. In the late 20th century the English occurrences of the surname remained concentrated in the Sheffield area. Modern geography and economy Dungworth is a hamlet located approximately west of Stannington and the outermost suburbs of Sheffield in agricultural high ground at around above sea level. It is south of the eastern end of Damflask reservoir. The village has a primary school ''Bradfield Dungworth School'', and a public house, the ''Royal Hotel''. Social geography The village pub has long been a centre of village life, games of Knurr and Spell were played in the 1920s and there were clubs for fishing, running, football and cricket. Storrs is a hamlet within the boundaries of the City of Sheffield in England, it is situated 6.5 km (4 miles) west-northwest of the city centre. Storrs is located between the suburb of Stannington and the village of Dungworth in the civil parish of Bradfield at a height of 210 metres above sea level between the Loxley and Rivelin valleys. Although historically a farming settlement, water-powered milling on the Storrs Brook and small scale cutlery making has also taken place in the hamlet. Cec Coldwell
George Cecil Coldwell (12 January 1929 – 9 November 2008) was a professional footballer who played for Sheffield United from 1951 to 1968. He played in the position of right-back. Playing career Coldwell signed for Sheffield United in September 1951 from local side Norton Woodseats for a fee of £100, before finally making his debut against Southampton in April 1952. Although a late developer, Coldwell formed a splendid full-back partnership with first Cliff Mason and then Graham Shaw, playing in 410 league games for the Blades which included two rare goals. The captain of the 1961 promotion team, he was retained as a player until 1968, although by then he was fully employed as a junior coach. Bradfield, South Yorkshire
Bradfield is a civil parish in the City of Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, England. The civil parish is extensive, the western half is situated in the moorlands of the Peak District, the eastern half is in lower agricultural land and contains the parish's significant habitations, which include the Sheffield suburb of Stannington, as well as Oughtibridge and Worrall, and the villages of High Bradfield and Low Bradfield. The parish also includes several reservoirs, and a number of minor settlements, such as Ewden. Bradfield is located from Sheffield city centre and from Barnsley. Stannington is a suburb in the City of Sheffield, England. The area is located in the civil parish of Bradfield, and is in the electoral ward of Stannington. Stannington is situated on the western edge of the Sheffield urban area History and description Stannington is a suburb of Sheffield to the west of the city centre, located on the hill between the River Rivelin and River Loxley. Tony Hawksworth (footballer)
Anthony Hawksworth (born 15 January 1938) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Manchester United. He was born in Sheffield and grew up in the village of Dungworth in the Stannington area of the city. The formative years of his football career were spent in the Manchester United youth teams, playing in the same sides as players like Duncan Edwards and Bobby Charlton. With Manchester United's youth team, he became one of five players to win three consecutive FA Youth Cup winner's medals, in 1954, 1955 and 1956. He also played international football for England at schoolboy and youth level. After playing just three matches for the club's reserve team, Hawksworth was called up to the Manchester United first team for a First Division match away to Blackpool on 27 October 1956, after regular goalkeeper Ray Wood had pulled out due to injury.
