Dumont, Texas
Dumont is an unincorporated community in King County, Texas, United States. It lies in the far northwestern corner of the county, near the Dickens County line. As of the 2000 census, the population was estimated to be 85, making it the second largest community in the sparsely populated county, behind the county seat of Guthrie. History Dumont was founded sometime in the late 1880s and named after the first postmaster of the nearby community of Paducah. By 1896 three churches served Dumont's fifty or so residents, and in 1914 schools from 2 neighboring communities consolidated to form Dumont Independent School District #1, which remained intact until 1959 when it was consolidated with Guthrie schools. Though it has served as a minor center for shipping and commerce for several area ranches, the town has never been highly populated, reaching a high mark of 105 residents in 1960. Harris County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas; as of the 2020 census, the population was 4,731,145, making it the most populous county in Texas and the third most populous county in the United States. Dickens County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,770. Its county seat is Dickens. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1891. Both the county and its seat are named for J. Dickens, who died at the Battle of the Alamo. The Pitchfork Ranch is in Dickens and adjacent King County. It was managed from 1965 to 1986 by Jim Humphreys, who was also affiliated with the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock. A semi-arid climate, semi-desert climate, or steppe climate is a dry climate sub-type. It is located on regions that receive precipitation below potential evapotranspiration, but not as low as a desert climate. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Guthrie Common School District
Guthrie Common School District is a public school district based in the community of Guthrie, Texas (USA), in central King County. The school district covers the majority of King County, excepting a portion in the northeast (which instead is in the Crowell Independent School District). The district operates one building that houses Guthrie School (which serves students in grades kindergarten through twelve), as well as the GCSD administration offices and the King County Library. Guthrie School is a public K-12 school, located in Guthrie, that is classified as a 1A school by the UIL. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. Paducah is a town in Cottle County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,186 at the 2010 census, down from 1,498 in 2000. It is the county seat of Cottle County. It is just south of the Texas Panhandle and east of the Llano Estacado. History The town was named for Paducah, a city in western Kentucky. R. Potts, a settler from Paducah, Kentucky, offered land to new residents in exchange for voting to name the town Paducah and make it the county seat. Paducah officially became the county seat in 1892 and was incorporated in 1910. Geography Paducah is located south of the center of Cottle County. Guthrie is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in, and the county seat of, King County in the U.S. state of Texas. It is in the northern part of the state, east of Lubbock. It serves as the principal headquarters of the Four Sixes Ranch. As of the 2010 census, its population was 160. History Guthrie's recorded history begins in 1883, when the Louisville Land and Cattle Company in Louisville, Kentucky, purchased several hundred acres in what later became King County. Named after Louisville Land and Cattle stockholder W.H. Guthrie, the community's townsite was platted in 1891 by Andrew Chester Tackitt (son of Rev. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer.
