Dumbarton Rail Corridor
The Dumbarton Rail Corridor is a proposed transbay passenger rail line which would reuse the right-of-way that was initially constructed from 1907–1910 as the Dumbarton Cut-off. The Dumbarton Cut-off includes the first structure to span San Francisco Bay, the 1910 Dumbarton Rail Bridge, although the vintage Cut-off bridges would likely be replaced prior to activating new passenger service. Dumbarton Rail Corridor would provide service between Union City in the East Bay (where passengers could connect with BART, ACE and Capitol Corridor trains) and Menlo Park on the Peninsula, with train service continuing to both San Francisco and San José along the existing Caltrain tracks. Dumbarton Rail Bridge
The Dumbarton Rail Bridge lies just to the south of the Dumbarton road bridge. Built in 1910, the rail bridge was the first structure to span San Francisco Bay, shortening the rail route between Oakland and San Francisco by . The last freight train traveled over the bridge in 1982, and it has been proposed since 1991 to reactivate passenger train service (connecting Caltrain on the Peninsula with ACE, BART and the Capitol Corridor in the East Bay) to relieve traffic on the road bridges, though this would entail a complete replacement of the existing bridge. Menlo Park station is a Caltrain station located in Menlo Park, California. The station was originally built in 1867 by the San Francisco and San Jose Railroad and acquired by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The station is on the east side of the Bayshore Freeway (U.S. 101), east and south of the curved Grand Avenue overpass, and north of where the freeway crosses over the tracks. Millbrae station is an intermodal transit station serving Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and Caltrain, located in Millbrae, California. The station is the terminal station for BART on the San Francisco Peninsula, served by two lines: The before 9 pm and the evenings. It is served by all Caltrain service. The station is also served by SamTrans bus service, Commute.org and Caltrain shuttle buses, and other shuttles. Rail service to the area began with 17 Mile House station, which opened in 1864 on land deeded by Darius Ogden Mills; it was renamed Millbrae the next year. San Mateo (Caltrain Station)
San Mateo station is the northernmost of the three Caltrain stations in San Mateo, California. It is in downtown San Mateo. History The first station serving downtown San Mateo was located between 2nd and 3rd at Railroad. On June 15, 1883, a "disastrous fire" destroyed San Mateo's Central block, located across the street from the station. Antoine Borel donated a lot in the block burned clear by the fire which become the site of the first public library in San Mateo; that building, named "Library Hall", was later converted to serve as City Hall. The depot and Library Hall both sustained damage in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Library Hall and the old depot were torn down in 1976, and a parking structure was erected on the old site. Hillsdale station is one of three Caltrain stations in San Mateo, California. The station is next to the Bay Meadows neighborhood and close to the Hillsdale Shopping Center. History Bay Meadows station Until it was closed on December 20, 2005, the Bay Meadows Racetrack was served by the now-removed Bay Meadows stop, less than a half-mile (800 m) north of Hillsdale. The Bay Meadows stop lacked a passenger shelter, and was just an opening in the chain link fencing where riders could access the grandstand parking lot.
