The House of Broglie (, also ; french: Maison de Broglie, or ) is a French noble family, originally Piedmontese, who migrated to France in the year 1643. History () was the name of an old Piedmontese noble family, from which were descended the counts of Casalborgone, Mombello and Revello, and the lords of Arignano, Cortandone, Fontanetto Po, Chieri, Cocconato, Monale, Montaldo, Pont Canavese and Santena. The first reference to the name is dated 1245, mentioning one ''Ardizzone Broglia'', father of ''Guglielmo'', ''decurione'' of Chieri. The founder of the French ''de Broglie'' line was Francesco Maria, count of Revello, of the ''Broglia di Chieri'' family. François-Marie, duc de Broglie, (11 January 167122 May 1745) was a French military leader. Biography Early years François-Marie de Broglie was the third son of Victor-Maurice, comte de Broglie, named for his grandfather, François Marie. He entered the army at an early age, and had a varied career of active service before he was made, at the age of twenty-three, lieutenant-colonel of the king's regiment of cavalry. Career He served continuously in the War of the Spanish Succession and was present at Malplaquet. He was made lieutenant-general in 1710, and served with Villars in the last campaign of the war and at the Battle of Denain. During the peace he continued in military employment, and in 1719 he was made director-general of cavalry and dragoons. Victor-Maurice, comte de Broglie (12 March 16474 August 1727) was a French soldier and general. Victor-Maurice de Broglie was born in the De Broglie house, a noble family originally from Piedmont. He was the son of François-Marie, comte de Broglie and Angelique de Vassal, Countess of Favria. After the death of his father he inherited the countships of Revel and de Broglie, the marquisate of Senonches and also received the Government of La Bassee, near Lille. He served under Condé, Turenne, and other commanders of the age of Louis XIV in the Franco-Dutch War and other conflicts.
