Duet
A duet is a musical composition for two performers in which the performers have equal importance to the piece, often a composition involving two singers or two pianists. It differs from a harmony, as the performers take turns performing a solo section rather than performing simultaneously. A piece performed by two pianists performing together on the same piano is a "piano duet" or " piano four hands". A piece for two pianists performing together on separate pianos is a " piano duo". The term ''duet'' is also used as a verb for the act of performing a musical duet, or colloquially as a noun to refer to the performers of a duet. A musical ensemble with more than two solo instruments or voices is called trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, septet, octet, etc. History When Mozart was young, he and his sister Marianne played a duet of his composition at a London concert in 1765. The four-hand, described as a duet, was in many of his compositions which included five sonatas; a set o ...

Duet (Archie Shepp And Dollar Brand Album)
''Duet'' is an album by saxophonist Archie Shepp and pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, Dollar Brand recorded in Tokyo in 1978 for the Japanese Denon Records, Denon label.Discogs album entry
February 10, 2017

Reception

AllMusic awarded the album 3 stars, stating: "A somewhat surprising pairing at the time, the former firebrand of the tenor sax and the wonderful South African pianist found a pleasant and relaxed meeting point. But the prevailing sense of relaxation begins to pall after a while and one wishes for a bit more of the old rough and tumble that these two were surely capable of. Stil ...

Duet (Jeff Coffin And Jeff Sipe Album)
''Duet'' is a live album by saxophonist Jeff Coffin and drummer Jeff Sipe. It was recorded over two and a half days at the Porter Center in Brevard, North Carolina, and was released in 2011 by Compass Records. In an interview, Coffin stated that the musicians' goal in recording the album was "to make music together and to try a bunch of different things and decide after the fact what it was going to become—let the music tell us what it wanted to be rather than us trying to dictate the music what we wanted it to be... The idea was to try to have a nice balance leaning more toward the side of improvisation than composition, but there are compositional ideas in there as well." Regarding the final result, he commented: "We took everything that we played... and I broke it down into 46 minutes of music. So it's basically one seamless piece of music. It's meant to be listened to as one piece, but you can break it up into sections also." Reception In a review for ''JazzTimes'', Bill Mere ...
