Dublin International Piano Festival
The Dublin International Piano Festival and Summer Academy, also known as DIPF, is an annual 11-day intensive workshop for pianists of all ages held in Rathgar, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. The festival takes place in July and offers 18 spots for students from all over the world to enjoy lessons, masterclasses, seminars, and concerts from both their peers and the faculty. Founded in 2012 by Rhona Gouldson and Archie Chen, DIPF was created in order to answer the call for a "quality holistic program of piano" in Dublin. Regular faculty include international concert pianists Evelyne Brancart and Edmund Battersby (both Indiana University), Lance Coburn ( Royal Irish Academy of Music), and Artistic Director Archie Chen (Piano Academy of Ireland). Rathgar
Rathgar (), is a suburb of Dublin in Ireland. It was originally a village which from 1862 was part of the township of Rathmines and Rathgar; it was absorbed by the growing city and became a suburb in 1930. It lies about three kilometres south of the city centre. Location Rathgar is situated in the southside of Dublin. It lies beside Dartry, Harold's Cross, Rathmines, and Terenure. Other nearby suburbs are Crumlin, Kimmage, Milltown, Ranelagh, and Rathfarnham. The Grand Canal flows to the north. Edmund Battersby
Edmund Battersby (November 10, 1949 - March 25, 2016) was a classical pianist and professor at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University. Life and career Edmund Battersby was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1949. His teachers included Barbara Holmquest, Artur Balsam, at Kneisel Hall, in Blue Hill, Maine, followed by Sascha Gorodnitski at the Juilliard School where he earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. Professor Battersby taught at Montclair State College, now Montclair State University, and Kneisel Hall before joining the faculty of the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Royal Irish Academy Of Music
The Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) in Dublin, Ireland, is one of Europe's oldest music conservatoires, specialising in classical music and the Irish harp. It is located in a Georgian building on Westland Row in Dublin. An institution which offers tuition from age 4 up to doctorate level, the RIAM has taught music performers and composers who have gone on to acclaim on the world stage. It is an associate college of the University of Dublin, Trinity College. John O'Conor
John O'Conor (born 18 January 1947) is an Irish pianist and pedagogue, and former director of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Early career Born in Dublin, O'Conor attended Belvedere College in that city. During his early Dublin studies, his main piano teacher was J. J. O'Reilly. Later he was awarded an Austrian Government scholarship that enabled him to study in Vienna with the renowned pedagogue Dieter Weber. He also made a special study of Beethoven with the legendary German pianist Wilhelm Kempff. In 1973 O'Conor was unanimously awarded First Prize at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna which launched his international career, and in 1975 he won First Prize at the Bösendorfer Competition. National Concert Hall
The National Concert Hall (NCH) (An Ceoláras Náisiúnta) is a national cultural institution, sometimes described as "the home of music in Ireland". It comprises the actual concert hall operation, which in various chambers hosts over 1,000 events each year, as well as Ireland's National Symphony Orchestra and three choirs: the National Symphony Chorus, Cor na nOg and Cor Linn. Originally built for the Dublin International Exhibition of Arts and Manufactures of 1865, the structure was converted into the central building of University College Dublin (UCD) at the foundation of the National University of Ireland in 1908. The Hugh Lane Gallery, officially Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and originally the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, is an art museum operated by Dublin City Council and its subsidiary, the Hugh Lane Gallery Trust.
