Drury is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately fifteen miles south of Mountain Grove and about three miles south of Vanzant on Route 95. Drury had a post office from 1893 until 2003, using zip code 65638. The community has the name of the local Drury family. Douglas County is a county located in the south-central portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,578. The county seat and only incorporated community is Ava. The county was officially organized on October 19, 1857, and is named after U.S. Senator Stephen A. Douglas ( D-Illinois) and later Democratic presidential candidate. History Previously, the county seat was located at Arno, west of Ava. Prior to that, Vera Cruz (formerly called Red Bud) was the county seat. Vera Cruz is located on Bryant Creek, which flows through the middle of the county. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Mountain Grove, Missouri
Mountain Grove is a city in Wright County and Texas County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It lies within the Ozarks in the south-central part of the state. The population was 4,313 at the 2020 census. History A post office called Mountain Grove has been in operation since 1875. The community owes its present name to a stand of trees near the original elevated town site. In 1841 a settlement was built on land east of Mountain Grove near a spring in a grove of hickory timber. A post office was established in Hickory Spring in 1853. The post office, in 1878, was named for Judge Robert W. Fyan, a prominent figure in early county history. In 1859, a general store was built at the crossroads about one mile west of Hickory Spring. The old post office established under the name of Fyan before the Civil War changed to Mountain Grove, with reference to its location on a ridge in a grove of trees, in 1878. Vanzant is an unincorporated community in northeastern Douglas County, Missouri, United States. It is located on Route 95 at the intersection with state route W, approximately one mile south of Route 76 and thirteen miles south of Mountain Grove. The community of Drury is about three miles south on Route 95. Vanzant post office was established in 1892 and was assigned a zip code of 65768. The community was named after an early settler. Vanzant is located on a ridge at an elevation of between southward-flowing tributary streams of Bryant Creek, Fox Creek to the west and Brush Creek to the east.
