Druine Turbi
__NOTOC__ The Druine D.5 Turbi was a light aircraft designed in France in the 1950s for home building. It was a low-wing cantilever monoplane with fixed tailskid undercarriage. The pilot and a single passenger sat in tandem, open cockpits. Essentially a scaled-up version of the Druine Turbulent design, the Turbi shared that aircraft's wooden construction. Again, like its predecessor, it was intended to be able to be powered by a variety of air-cooled engines. Shuttleworth Collection
The Shuttleworth Collection is a working aeronautical and automotive collection located at the Old Warden Aerodrome, Old Warden in Bedfordshire, England. It is the oldest in the world and one of the most prestigious, due to the variety of old and well-preserved aircraft. History The collection was founded in 1928 by aviator Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth. While flying a Fairey Battle at night on 2 August 1940, Shuttleworth fatally crashed. His mother, in 1944, formed the Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth Remembrance Trust "for the teaching of the science and practice of aviation and of afforestation and agriculture." Roger Druine (1921–1958) was a French aviator and light aircraft designer. Druine was born in 1921 at Pont-Sainte-Maxence and built his first aircraft age 16. He went on to design a series of small aircraft for amateur construction. Druine died on 19 March 1958 at age 37. The Druine D.31 Turbulent is a French single-seat ultralight Homebuilt aircraft designed by Roger Druine.Jackson Vol 2 1988, p. 303. Development The D.31 Turbulent was designed to be amateur-built and is a single-seat ultra-light aircraft with cantilever low-wing and fixed tailwheel landing gear. Designed to be powered by a 30 hp (1200cc) Volkswagen or similar engine. The fuselage and wings use wood construction with fabric covering. The NACA airfoils are airfoil shapes for aircraft wings developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The shape of the NACA airfoils is described using a series of digits following the word "NACA". The parameters in the numerical code can be entered into equations to precisely generate the cross-section of the airfoil and calculate its properties.
