Dressing For Breakfast
''Dressing for Breakfast'' is a Channel 4 sitcom which ran between 1995 and 1998 about two women, Louise (Beatie Edney) and Carla (Holly Aird). The series was based on a 1988 book with the same title by Stephanie Calman who also wrote the series. Storyline The plot mainly concerns 29-year-old jewellery maker/seller Louise and her quest to find the perfect man. Her interfering left wing activist mother Liz (Charlotte Cornwell) gets in the way. In her search for a boyfriend she makes some wrong choices and gets advice from best friend Carla and her husband Dave ( Nigel Lindsay). Reception The TV series was generally well received. It gained acclaim for featuring strong female characters and its frank look at female sexuality. It proved popular with audiences and was commissioned for three series broadcast between 1995 and 1998. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. Philip Glenister
Philip Haywood Glenister (born 10 February 1963) is an English actor. He is best known for his role as DCI Gene Hunt in the BBC series ''Life on Mars'' (2006–2007) and its sequel '' Ashes to Ashes'' (2008–2010). He also played DCI William Bell in '' State of Play'' (2003) and Reverend Anderson in '' Outcast'' (2016–2018). Early life Glenister was born in Harrow, Middlesex, and grew up in Hatch End. Victoria Carling
Victoria Carling is an English radio, television, film and theatre actress. She has an MA in English from Cambridge, and graduated from Bristol Old Vic in 1987, winning the Carleton Hobbs Award (with Stephen Tompkinson) in the same year. After many roles for radio on BBC, including a dramatisation of ''The Railway Children'' (1991), she played Harriet Humphrey in the BBC sitcom ''Bonjour la Classe'' in 1993. Juliette Gruber (born 1965) is a British actress born in the United States, but who moved to Britain at the age of one. Gruber is the niece of Hollywood actor Walter Matthau (1920–2000), who was married to her mother's sister.
