The Dreaming Awards are Australian art awards for emerging Indigenous Australian artists, as part of the National Indigenous Arts Awards awarded annually. Background and description The Dreaming Award was established in 2012 by the Australia Council for the Arts "to support an inspirational young artist aged 18-26 years to create a major body of work through mentoring and partnerships. The mentor/partner will be another established professional artist or arts institution nominated by the artist". the Dreaming Award is one of four categories awarded at the First Nations Arts Awards (formerly National Indigenous Arts Awards) on 27 May each year, on the anniversary of the 1967 referendum. The Australia Council for the Arts, commonly known as the Australia Council, is the country's official arts council, serving as an arts funding and advisory body for the Government of Australia. Tjala Arts, formerly known as Minymaku Arts, is an Aboriginal Australian-owned and -managed arts centre located in the remote community of Amata in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the remote north-west of South Australia. History Tjala Arts was started by women from Amata in 1997 and was originally called Minymaku Arts (meaning "Women's Arts"), until it was renamed in 2006 to better reflect the increasing involvement of men in the operation of the centre. Tjala is the Pitjantjatjara word for honey ant, which is both a traditional bush food and one of the creation stories for the Amata area. Indigenous Australians or Australian First Nations are people with familial heritage from, and membership in, the ethnic groups that lived in Australia before British colonisation. Tasman Keith is an Australian rapper and singer-songwriter. Early life Tasman Keith is a Gumbaynggirr man from Bowraville, New South Wales. At age seven, Tasman and his family moved from Bowraville to Sydney for his father's music. His dad was a rapper called Wire MC. Tasman says he was on stage at eight years old at festivals.
