History 2008–2010: Establishment, name change and mainstream breakthrough The label was established on August 15, 2008, as Harvest Entertainment (풍년 엔터테인먼트) by Lee Joowon. The label changed their name to Happyface Entertainment (해피페이스 엔터테인먼트) on January 23, 2009. Rap-pop duo One Two (previously established in 2003), signed a contract with Happyface Entertainment in early 2009. The duo released "Starry Night", "Bad Girl (ft. K-pop
K-pop (), short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. E-Tribe (Hangul: ) is a South Korean record artist and music duo consisting of Ahn Myung-won and Kim Young-deuk. They are most known for producing " Gee" by Girls' Generation, "U-Go-Girl" by Lee Hyo-ri, "Yayaya" by T-ara, " It's You" by Super Junior, and "I Know" by Se7en. ''Mix Nine'' (Hangul: 믹스나인, stylized as MIXNINE) was a South Korean survival reality show broadcast on JTBC. In the show, YG Entertainment founder and producer Yang Hyun-suk traveled to music agencies across Korea to find up-and-coming K-pop stars. Throughout the episodes, contestants were progressively eliminated, culminating in a competition between a team of the final nine boys and one of the final nine girls. Woo Jin-young (; born May 31, 1997) is a South Korean singer and rapper. During his tenure as a trainee with Happy Face Entertainment (now Dreamcatcher Company), he was a contestant on the reality survival series ''Produce 101'' and ''Mix Nine'', where he competed to debut in an idol group. ''Produce 101 Season 2'' () was a 2017 boy group survival reality show on Mnet, and is the second season of the original South Korean version of the franchise. The public (called 'national producers') "produces" a boy group by choosing 11 members among 101 trainees from 54 entertainment companies through online voting and live voting with multiple elimination rounds. The public also chose the group's concept, debut song and group name. In the season finale on June 16, 2017, which was broadcast live, the show announced the final 11 members who would debut as Wanna One.
