Dream Art Project
Dream Art Project is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy and team started in São Paulo, Brazil by BJJ world champion Isaque Bahiense. The Dream Art Project as since expanded its academies to Spring, Texas; Conroe, Texas; and Fullerton, California. Dream Art has produced numerous champions since its creation and is considered as one of the best jiu-jitsu teams in the world. Dream Art was the top scoring team for both male and female athletes at the 2023 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and ranked first in the 2022-2023 IBJJF Academy Rankings. History The Dream Art Project was founded in São Paulo, Brazil in October 2018 by black belt world champion Isaque Bahiense with the support of Alliance Jiu Jitsu. Isaque Bahiense
Isaque Bahiense is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt world champion competitor and professor, and founder of the Dream Art Project. He had trained at Alliance Jiu Jitsu previously. His world champion students include Anna Rodrigues. Professional grappling career 2020-2021 Bahiense competed at BJJ Bet on September 6, 2020 where he submitted Gregor Gracie with a guillotine. He was then invited to compete in a middleweight grand prix at BJJ Stars 4 on November 14, 2020. He won his first two matches but lost to Leandro Lo in the final. Bahiense returned at BJJ Stars 5 on February 6, 2021 for a superfight with Roberto Jimenez. He won the match 4-0 on points. He then competed at Big Deal Pro 3 on July 10, 2021 where he defeated Servio Tulio on points. He then won gold in the 85kg division of the Abu Dhabi World Pro on November 18, 2021. IBJJF Grand Slam
The Grand Slam in Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the achievement of winning all four major IBJJF tournaments in a calendar year. The four Grand Slam tournaments are the World IBJJF Championship, the European IBJJF Championship, Pan IBJJF Championship and the CBJJ Brazilian National Championship. Winning all four tournaments within a single year is widely considered the most prestigious accomplishment in Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition. Beatriz Mesquita also known as Bia Mesquita is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) competitor with arguably the best competitive record in both Gi and Nogi of all time having won 24 titles at black belt level in the 4 major Gi Championships. With 10x gold medals, as of Worlds 2021, she holds the record for the most IBJJF World Championship titles at black belt level and is a member of the IBJJF Hall of Fame. Nicholas Meregali (born 27 May 1994) is a Brazilian submission grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt competitor. A multiple time world, Pan, European and Brazilian champion at colored belts, Meregali is a 3x IBJJF black belt World Champion and a 2x ADCC World medallist. Early career Nicholas de Barcellos Meregali was born on 27 May 1994, in Santo Antônio in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Micael Ferreira Galvão, commonly known as Mica Galvão, (born 8 October 2003) is a submission grappler, Luta Livre and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt competitor from the Brazilian state of Amazonas. A highly decorated athlete competing since childhood, Galvão was promoted to black belt in 2021, at the age of 17, less than three years after reaching blue belt. In 2022 Galvão won the 2022 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship before testing positive for a banned substance and receiving a one-year suspension ban. Favela
Favela () is an umbrella name for several types of working-class neighborhoods in Brazil. The term was first used in the Providência neighborhood in the center of Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th century, which was built by soldiers who had lived under the favela trees in Bahia and had nowhere to live following the Canudos War. Some of the first settlements were called ''bairros africanos'' (African neighborhoods). Over the years, many former enslaved Africans moved in. Even before the first favela came into being, poor citizens were pushed away from the city and forced to live in the far suburbs. Most modern favelas appeared in the 1970s due to rural exodus, when many people left rural areas of Brazil and moved to cities. Unable to find places to live, many people found themselves in favelas. Paulo Henrique Bordignon Miyao is a Brazilian BJJ black belt with a notable competitive record. He and his brother João Miyao have a competitive rivalry with Keenan Cornelius: after several defeats to Cornelius in 2012, Paulo would go on to defeat Keenan at the 2013 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in the brown belt absolute division, a remarkable feat for his given weight-class.
