Dr. Feelgood (band)
Dr. Feelgood are an English pub rock band formed in 1971. Hailing from Canvey Island, Essex, the group are best known for early singles such as " She Does It Right", " Roxette", "Back in the Night" and " Milk and Alcohol". The group's original distinctively British R&B sound was centred on Wilko Johnson's choppy guitar style. Along with Johnson, the original band line-up included singer Lee Brilleaux and the rhythm section of John B. Sparks, known as "Sparko", on bass guitarThe spelling is Sparks on all the album credits, but is spelt Sparkes in a few references, and he is also known as "Sparko". and John Martin, known as "The Big Figure", on drums. Steve Walwyn
Stephen Martin Walwyn (born 8 June 1956 in Southam, Warwickshire) is an English rhythm and blues guitarist, best known for his playing with Dr. Feelgood, but who has also played with Eddie and the Hot Rods, Steve Marriott and the DTs, the Roger Chapman Band, the Big Town Playboys and his own band Steve Walwyn and Friends. Steve Walwyn (after 32 years in Dr Feelgood) then joined up with Horace Panter (42 years in The Specials) and Ted Duggan from Badfinger, The Beat and The Selecter in The Dirt Road Band, touring from 5th March 2022. Early career Walwyn states his inspiration to become a guitarist was Rory Gallagher's album '' Live in Europe''. Roxette was a Swedish pop rock duo, consisting of Marie Fredriksson (vocals) and Per Gessle (vocals and guitar). Formed in 1986, the duo became an international act in the late 1980s, when they released their breakthrough second album '' Look Sharp!'' Their third album '' Joyride,'' released in 1991, became as successful as its predecessor. ''Down by the Jetty'' is the debut album by English rock band Dr. Feelgood, released in January 1975. The band's Johnny Kidd & the Pirates-influenced originals ("Keep It Out of Sight") appear alongside covers material like " Bonie Moronie" and "Tequila". The album was re-released as a double CD in 2006 (EMI 0946 363951 2 8). Legacy Paul Weller and Bob Geldof have acknowledged the influence of ''Down by the Jetty'', as have Blondie, the Ramones and Richard Hell, who were introduced to the album by Blondie's drummer Clem Burke. In 1976, prior to being signed, Paul Weller's band The Jam demoed a cover of "Cheque Book". A copy of the album is also glimpsed on the sleeve of the 1985 album '' Our Favourite Shop'' by his later band The Style Council. Willie Lee Perryman (October 19, 1911 – July 25, 1985), usually known professionally as Piano Red and later in life as Dr. Feelgood, was an American blues musician, the first to hit the pop music charts. He was a self-taught pianist who played in the barrelhouse blues style (a loud percussive type of blues piano suitable for noisy bars or taverns). His performing and recording careers emerged during the period of transition from completely segregated "race music" to rhythm and blues, which was marketed to both white and black audiences. Some music historians credit Perryman's 1950 recording "Rocking With Red" for the popularization of the term rock and roll in Atlanta. Blues is a music genre and musical form which originated in the Deep South of the United States around the 1860s. Blues incorporated spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads from the African-American culture.
