Dove Awards Of 2006
The 37th Annual GMA Dove Awards, also called the 37th Annual GMA Music Awards, were held on April 5, 2006 recognizing accomplishments of Christian musicians for the year 2005. The show was held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, and was hosted by Rebecca St. James and Kirk Franklin. This was the last year in which the awards were called the "GMA Music Awards", since they will change their names to "GMA Dove Awards". Nominations were announced earlier in 2006 by Kirk Franklin and Rebecca St. James at the Hilton Nashville Downtown in Music City, Tennessee. Chris Tomlin won four awards, including Artist of the Year, while The Afters were awarded New Artist of the Year. Grand Ole Opry House
The ''Grand Ole Opry'' is a weekly American country music stage concert in Nashville, Tennessee, founded on November 28, 1925, by George D. Hay as a one-hour radio "barn dance" on WSM. Currently owned and operated by Opry Entertainment (a division of Ryman Hospitality Properties, Inc.), it is the longest-running radio broadcast in US history. Dedicated to honoring country music and its history, the Opry showcases a mix of famous singers and contemporary chart-toppers performing country, bluegrass, Americana, folk, and gospel music as well as comedic performances and skits. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world and millions of radio and internet listeners. In the 1930s, the show began hiring professionals and expanded to four hours. Mark Hall (musician)
John Mark Hall (born September 14, 1969) is the lead vocalist for the Georgia-based contemporary Christian music group Casting Crowns, a seven-member group composed of worship leaders. Hall is also youth pastor at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough. Early childhood Hall was diagnosed with learning disabilities as a child, including attention deficit disorder just before third grade. He also was diagnosed with dyslexia. Mark defines himself as "a broken person made whole". He talks about his trials in his book ''Lifestories''. Early ministry Hall served as youth pastor to the First Baptist Church of Samson, Alabama and other churches while pursuing a music degree at the Baptist College of Florida. Israel Houghton (; born May 19, 1971) is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, producer and worship leader. He is usually credited as Israel & New Breed. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound
Ernie Haase & Signature Sound is an American Southern Gospel quartet founded in 2002 by Ernie Haase, former Cathedral Quartet tenor and Garry Jones, former Gold City pianist. As of November 2021, the group consists of Dustin Doyle (lead/baritone), Doug Anderson (lead/baritone), Paul Harkey (bass) and Ernie Haase (tenor). The group has released 32 albums and 16 DVDs, many of which feature other Christian and Gospel artists. History Origin The Cathedral Quartet announced their farewell tour in 1999. Lead singer Glen Payne died on October 15, 1999, before the end of the tour. Upon request of Glen Payne, the remaining members finished the tour with pianist Roger Bennett performing Payne's vocals. Mark Mitchell Schultz (born September 16, 1970) is an American contemporary Christian music artist. He has been nominated for numerous Dove Awards, winning his first at the 2006 Dove Awards when the CD/DVD ''Mark Schultz Live: A Night of Stories & Songs'' was named Long Form Music Video of the Year. Background Mark Schultz was adopted at two weeks old by his parents Gary and Ronita Schultz in Kansas City, Kansas. He has an older brother, Brad and a younger sister, Susan. Most of his childhood was spent in Colby, KS where he attended Colby Elementary School. When he was about eight years old, Schultz began to teach himself piano by ear. Martha Denise Munizzi (born February 26, 1968) is an American Christian music singer, songwriter, author, and pastor. Early years A native of central Florida, Martha Munizzi was born into a Christian musical family. The daughter of evangelists, Martha and her twin sister Mary Alessi were born in Lakeland, Florida and grew up traveling and ministering through music with her family. She began performing at age 8, touring the country with her family in concerts and crusades around the United States and Canada. Martha, Mary, and their older sister Marvelyne were born with their parents' talent for music and became a part of the traveling family group as kids.
