Dos Ríos (Palma Soriano)
Palma Soriano is a Cuban city and municipality in the Santiago de Cuba Province. With a population of 125,385 in the city proper, it is the second-largest in the province and the 16th-largest in Cuba. History The city was founded in 1825, uniting ranches (''haciendas'') that stood in this area, and was the place where the body of José Martí (the leader of the Cuban independence movement, killed in 1895, in the Battle of Dos Ríos) was brought before it was laid in its final resting place in Santiago de Cuba. Geography The city of Palma Soriano is located on the banks of the upper Cauto River. The municipality is divided into the localities of Aguacate, Arroyo Blanco, Candonga, Dos Palmas, Dos Ríos, El Maniel, Hatillo, Hicotea, La Candelaria, La Curia, Oriente, Ramón de Guaninao, Soledad, Yarayabo and other minor localities. Guamá, Cuba
Guamá is a municipality in the Santiago de Cuba Province of Cuba. The municipal seat is located in the town of Chivirico. It was named after Guamá, the Taíno cacique who led a rebellion against the Spanish 1530s. Ana Fidelia Quirot
Ana Fidelia Quirot Moré (; born March 23, 1963) is a former track and field athlete from Cuba, who specialised in the 800 metres but was also successful over 400 m. At 800 metres, she is a two-time World Champion (1995, 1997) and a two-time Olympic medallist (1992, 1996). Her best time of 1:54.44 from 1989 still ranks her fifth on the world all-time list. She is regarded as one of the best female 800m runners of all time, and probably the best to not have an Olympic gold medal in the event. Career Quirot was born in Palma Soriano, Cuba. In 1983, she won a silver medal in the 400 metres at the Pan American Games in Caracas, running 51.83. Four years later at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis, she won both the 400m and 800m. Jorge Molina Enríquez (born 1966 in Palma Soriano in the province of Santiago) is a Cuban actor and film director. After studying cinema in the USSR, he graduated from the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television (International Film and TV School of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba), known as EICTV. Orestes Kindelán
Orestes Kindelán Olivares (born November 1, 1964) is the most prolific home run hitter in the history of post-revolutionary Cuban baseball, known as "El Cañon de Dos Rios" and one of the offensive stars of the Cuba national baseball team, which won numerous World Cups and two Olympic gold medals during his tenure. He is a cousin of amateur boxer Mario Kindelán. Career Kindelán played the bulk of his 21 seasons for his home province's Santiago de Cuba Avispas (Wasps). He holds Cuban National Series records for home runs (487, with aluminium bat 17 series), runs batted in (1,511), and total bases (3,893). Kindelán played for Japanese corporate team Shidax between 2002 and 2004 in the Intercity baseball tournament.
