Donna Santisi
Donna Santisi is an American photographer. Her work has appeared in ''Slash'', ''New York Rocker'' and '' Creem''. Career Santisi first became interested in photography in college. She saw Janis Joplin multiple times and the desire grew to document the experience. Santisi received a BS in Business Administration from Rider University but after experiencing the punk scene of Los Angeles Santisi devoted herself to photography. The first bands Santisi photographed were The Shangri-Las and The Young Rascals. Her seminal punk photography collection documenting the LA new wave and punk rock scene, ''Ask The Angels'', was published in 1978. An expanded edition was published in 2010. Santisi shot the cover for The Cramps's album '' Psychedelic Jungle'', provided photography for the inner sleeves of ''The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads'' by Talking Heads and ''Learning to Crawl'' by The Pretenders Pretenders are an English–American rock band formed in March 1978. Slash (fanzine)
''Slash'' was a punk rock-related fanzine published by Steve Samiof and Melanie Nissen in the United States from 1977 to 1980. The magazine was a large-format tabloid focused on the Los Angeles punk scene. The fanzine also gave birth to Slash Records, an important punk record label. Description ''Slash'' regularly covered such L.A. bands as the Screamers, the Skulls, Nervous Gender, and X. It did not restrict itself to local acts; its first cover featured Dave Vanian of the Damned. It also featured articles and reviews on reggae, blues, and rockabilly, in doing so, introduced punk audiences to a wide range of then-unfamiliar musical genres. Writers Claude "Kickboy Face" Bessy, Craig Lee, Richard Meltzer, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Chris D., Allan MacDonell and Pleasant Gehman, and cartoonist Gary Panter were among the major contributors. Kelly Johnson (guitarist)
Bernadette Jean "Kelly" Johnson (20 June 1958 – 15 July 2007) was an English guitarist and singer, widely known in the UK in the early 1980s as the lead guitarist of the all-female rock band Girlschool. Biography Johnson started playing piano after her father when she was five years old, switching to guitar at age twelve. She attended Edmonton County School in Edmonton, London, where she discovered rock music and played bass and piano in school bands. She went back to guitar and was already writing and playing her own material when she met her future bandmates at the age of 19. After her first encounter with Kim McAuliffe and Enid Williams in April 1978, she was immediately accepted in the ranks of the new band formed from the ashes of the group Painted Lady, which took the name of Girlschool.
