Donington, Lincolnshire
__NOTOC__ Donington is a large village and civil parish in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire, England. It is north from the market town of Spalding on the A152, is bypassed by the A52, and sits between the A16 and A17. The parish includes the hamlet of Northorpe, and falls within the drainage area of the Black Sluice Internal Drainage Board. Donington is the birthplace of the explorer Matthew Flinders. History Donington was large enough in the C18th to attract the travelling theatrical companies. In 1784 Mathew Flinders, father of the famous navigator, wrote 'in the latter half of October and beginning of November we have a small Company of Comedians with us. Donington is a hamlet and civil parishes in England, civil parish in Shropshire, England. It shares a parish council with the neighbouring parish of Boscobel, Shropshire, Boscobel, due to the latter's small population. Donington Le Heath
Donington le Heath is a village on the River Sence just over south of the centre of Coalville in North West Leicestershire. Donington is contiguous with the village of Hugglescote immediately to the east. The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Hugglescote and Donington le Heath. Donington le Heath and Hugglescote and were part of the parish of Ibstock until 1878, when they were formed into a separate civil parish. In 1936 the parish was absorbed by the then urban district of Coalville. The civil parish of Hugglescote and Donington le Heath was reinstated by an order made in May 2010, and the new parish council held its first meeting in May 2011. Donington Hall
Donington Hall is a mansion house set in parkland near Castle Donington village, North West Leicestershire. The Hall and Estate was purchased in April 2021 by MotorSport Vision, which also operates the neighbouring Donington Park racing circuit. The Hall had previously served as the headquarters for British Midland International until it was merged into British Airways in 2012, then was owned until 2020 by Stuart Garner, the former owner and CEO of the Norton Motorcycle Company as the company's headquarters. Norton went into administration with rights to the name being sold in April 2020. History The house was built from ''c'' 1790, for Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 2nd Earl of Moira (created Marquess of Hastings in 1816), in a Gothic form by William Wilkins. Donington Park is a motorsport circuit located near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, England. The circuit business is now owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation, and the surrounding Donington Park Estate, still owned by the Wheatcroft family, is currently under lease by MotorSport Vision until 2038. It has a capacity of 120,000, and is also the venue of the Download Festival. Originally part of the Donington Hall estate, it was created as a racing circuit during the period between the First and Second World Wars when the German Silver Arrows were battling for the European Championship. Used as a military vehicle storage depot during the Second World War, it fell into disrepair until bought by local construction entrepreneur Tom Wheatcroft. Donington Park is a motorway service station owned by Moto, near Kegworth village in the English East Midlands. It is accessed from the M1 motorway by junctions 23a (from the south) and 24 (from the north), and is part of the complex of junctions involving the A42, A453, A50 and A6 roads. The service station is adjacent to East Midlands Airport and the East Midlands Gateway freight terminal, and is some from the Donington Park motorsport circuit, from which it takes its name. Mary Donington
Mary Winifred Sylvia Donington (1909–1987) was a British musician and sculptor. Biography Donington was born in London, was educated at the Mary Datchelor School in Camberwell and had a classical music education at the Royal Academy of Music. Although she spent a year, from 1945 to 1946, as a pupil of the sculptor Frank Dobson she was largely a self-taught artist. During her career as a sculptor Donington created portrait figures in bronze, terracotta and plaster and exhibited at the Royal Academy, with the Women's International Art Club, the Society of Women Artists and the National Society of Painters, Sculptors and Gravers / Printmakers. In 1948 she exhibited a bust of Rosemary Cowper at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Robert Donington (4 May 1907 – 20 January 1990) was a British musicologist and instrumentalist influential in the early music movement and in Wagner studies. He was educated at St Paul's School, London, and studied at the University of Oxford. His expert knowledge of early instruments and the interpretation of pre-classical music owed much to a period of study with Arnold Dolmetsch at Haslemere, Surrey. He was appointed OBE in the 1979 Birthday Honours. He was born in Leeds, and died in Firle, Sussex at the age of 82.
