Dong Hua Sao National Protected Area
Dong Hua Sao National Protected Area is a national park in Champasak Province in southern Laos. This forested park rises from the Mekong river lowlands eastwards into the Bolaven Plateau. It is an ecotourism destination. Geography Dong Hua Sao National Park is located about east of Pakse and about south of the town of Paksong in Paksong, Pathoumphone and Bachiangchaleunsouk districts. The park's area is including of wetlands. Elevations range from in the west to about on the Bolaven Plateau. History Coffee growing was introduced to this area in the 1940s. In 1950 the Dong Hua Sao Forest Reserve was declared, covering . Wartime migration of ethnic minorities from highland to lowland areas took place in the 1960s and 1970s. Green Peafowl
The green peafowl or Indonesian peafowl (''Pavo muticus'') is a peafowl species native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. It has been listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List since 2009 because the global population has been declining rapidly and is severely fragmented due to loss of habitat. It is the national bird of Myanmar. Description Unlike the related Indian peafowl, the sexes of green peafowl are quite similar in appearance, especially in the wild. Both sexes have long upper tail coverts which cover the actual tail underneath. Hornbills
Hornbills (Bucerotidae) are a family of bird found in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Melanesia. They are characterized by a long, down-curved bill which is frequently brightly coloured and sometimes has a casque on the upper mandible. Both the common English and the scientific name of the family refer to the shape of the bill, "buceros" being "cow horn" in Greek. Hornbills have a two-lobed kidney.
