The Donegal High School is a public high school located in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. This school is the sole high school in the Donegal School District. Attendance at this school was reported to be 854. History In 1954, the Donegal High School was formed by the combination of the East Donegal Township, Mount Joy, Marietta, and Mount Joy Township high schools. The building was built in 1954 at the intersections of PA-772 and Union School Road. This structure remained as the high school until 2012, when a new building was built on nearby Koser Road. The former building remains in use as the Donegal Junior High School. East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
East Donegal Township is a township in northwestern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. At the 2020 census, the population was 8,690. History It is named after County Donegal, Ireland. The original township of Donegal was organized by the court of Chester County in 1722, and was one of the two townships which composed Lancaster County at the time of its erection in 1729. On the 24th of June, 1838, a division was effected, whereby the old township was constituted into two townships, to be separately and distinctly recognized as East Donegal and West Donegal. The settlers of East Donegal were of Scots-Irish descent and were primarily farmers who were drawn to the area by the rich soils and plentiful streams. Thus the abundant produce provided by the land was able to be made into flour by the many mills which sprang up in the area. Marietta is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The population was 2,633 at the 2020 census. It is located on the east bank of the Susquehanna River northwest of Columbia. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all of it recorded as land. The borough of Elizabethtown borders the township to the southwest, and the borough of Mount Joy borders the southern end of the township. Pennsylvania Route 772 (PA 772) is an east–west state highway located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The western terminus of PA 772 is at PA 441 in Marietta, and its eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 30 (US 30) just west of Gap. The route is mostly a two-lane road that passes through rural areas of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country to the north of the city of Lancaster. The highway goes through the boroughs of Mount Joy, Manheim, and Lititz, along with the villages of Rothsville, Leola, and Intercourse. Christopher J. Heisey (born December 14, 1984) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played for the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball (MLB). Early life Heisey graduated from Donegal High School in 2003, and went on to attend Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania. At Messiah College, he set career records in batting average (.405), total bases (294), doubles (41), home runs (23), extra base hits (71), and consecutive game hitting streak (14). David S. "Dave" Hickernell (born January 2, 1959) is a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 98th District and was elected in 2002. He currently sits on the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Local Government, and Transportation Committees. Personal Hickernell is a native of Marietta, Pennsylvania. Clarence Charles Newcomer (January 18, 1923 – August 22, 2005) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for more than 33 years. Education and career Newcomer was born in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, to Clarence S. and Clara Charles Newcomer. He graduated from Mount Joy High School in 1941. Newcomer entered the V-12 Navy College Training Program, and was a United States Naval Reserve Lieutenant of an amphibious landing craft in the Pacific Theater during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. Howard Bruce Sutter (; January 8, 1953 – October 13, 2022) was an American professional baseball pitcher who played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1976 and 1988. He was one of the sport's dominant relievers in the late 1970s and early 1980s, making effective use of the split-finger fastball.
