Donatella Flick Conducting Competition
The Donatella Flick Conducting Competition is an international music competition for young conductors, held biennially in London. History The Donatella Flick Conducting Competition is named after the philanthropist Donatella Flick, who founded the competition in 1990 to help young conductors to establish an international career. In 1996 the competition established a collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra. The winner of the competition, in addition to the cash prize and the concert engagements, becomes an assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra for one year after the competition. The jury of the competition is formed of professional conductors and musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra, and has included names such as Maxim Vengerov, Tamás Vásáry, Andrew Marriner, Leif Segerstam, Yuri Temirkanov, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Pinchas Steinberg, Daniele Gatti, Sir Neville Marriner and Carlo Rizzi. Felix Mildenberger (born 1990 in Wolfach) is a German conductor. He has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Filarmonica Teatro Regio di Torino from 2022. Since 2014 he has been principal conductor and artistic director of the Sinfonieorchester Crescendo Freiburg, which he co-founded in 2014. Elim Chan has been the chief conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra since the 2019-2020 concert season and has been the permanent guest conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra since the 2018-2019 season. David Afkham (born 1983) is a German conductor. Biography Born in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, Afkham began violin and piano studies at age 6. Fabien Gabel (born 10 September 1975) is a French conductor. Biography As a youth, Gabel began trumpet studies at age 6. He continued his music education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he won a first prize in 1996, and at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe.
