Donald Robert McDonald
Donald Robert McDonald (December 11, 1856 – 1923) was a contractor, farmer and politician in Ontario. He represented Glengarry from 1898 to 1902 and from 1908 to 1911 in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Conservative. The son of D.D. McDonald, he was born in Wisconsin and was educated in Williamstown. He was married twice: first to Catherine McDonell in 1887 and then to Mary Isabella Chisholm around 1899. McDonald served as deputy reeve of Charlottenburgh township. He defeated David Murdoch McPherson to win a seat in the provincial assembly in 1898. McDonald ran unsuccessfully for the Glengarry seat in the Canadian House of Commons in 1904, losing to Jacob Schell. Jacob Thomas Schell
Jacob Thomas Schell (December 27, 1850 – July 29, 1916) was a merchant and political figure. He represented Glengarry in the House of Commons of Canada from 1900 to 1908 as a Liberal member. He was born in East Oxford Township, Canada West in 1850, the son of Jacob Schell, and educated in Woodstock. He is greatgrandson of Johann Christian Schell, a Palatine German from German Flatts, New York, who died fighting for the Americans in 1782 on his farm. The family moved to Canada after the American Revolution to take advantage of the land available in Ontario. Glengarry (electoral District)
Glengarry was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1917, and from 1925 to 1953. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867, and consisted of Glengarry county. The electoral district was abolished in 1914 when it was merged into Glengarry and Stormont riding. David Murdoch McPherson
David Murdoch "D.M." Macpherson (November 17, 1847 – February 4, 1915) was a Canadian dairyman, inventor, manufacturer and political figure. He represented Glengarry in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal- Patrons of Industry member from 1894 to 1898. His surname also appears as McPherson in some sources. He was born in Lancaster Township, Canada West, the son of John McPherson, a native of Kingussie, Scotland, and Catherine Cameron, daughter of John Cameron "the Rich". He inherited the family dairy farm and in 1871 married Margaret McBean, daughter of Duncan McBean of Montreal and Lancaster, Ontario. He became a major cheese producer, owning a large group of factories known as the Allan Grove Combination, with factories in Ontario, Quebec and upper New York state.
