Donal Monaghan
Donal Monaghan (1950 – 3 January 2016) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a right corner-back for the Donegal county team. Born in County Donegal, Monaghan first played competitive Gaelic football at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Donegal minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in the 1968-69 National Football League. Monaghan went on to play a key part for Donegal in a team that made a provincial breakthrough, and won two Ulster medals and one All Stars Award. His uncle, Johnny Monaghan, played Gaelic football with Fermanagh in the 1930s. Monaghan represented the Ulster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions and was a Railway Cup runner-up in 1975. Four Masters GAA
Four Masters is a GAA club located in the town of Donegal in County Donegal, Ireland. They are one of the strongholds of Gaelic football in Donegal. History Based in the parishes of Townawilly and Killymard, Donegal Town, Four Masters is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Donegal having won 3 Donegal Senior Football Championships. The GAA club under Warwickshire County Board in Coventry, England, is named after the Four Masters club in Donegal. That club was unable to register as a Donegal Club but reserved the Four Masters name. Austin O'Kennedy, a top GAA doctor who oversaw all Donegal county teams for 22 years, has also been involved with Four Masters for even longer. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Barry Monaghan
Barry Monaghan is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Four Masters and also, formerly, the Donegal county team. Club Monaghan won the Donegal Senior Football Championship with his club in 2003. He scored two points in the final against Termon. Inter-county Monaghan won the All-Ireland Vocational Schools Championship in 1995. Monaghan made his Donegal debut in October 2000 in what was Mickey Moran's first game in charge, a league victory at home to Offaly, in which he scored a point. He made his championship debut in 2001. He played in the 2003 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final against Armagh. He played in the 2006 Ulster Senior Football Championship Final at Croke Park. 1982 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship
The 1982 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship was the 19th staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. Cork entered the championship as defending champions, however, they were defeated by Roscommon in the All-Ireland semi-final. Donegal won the championship following an 0–8 to 0–5 defeat of Roscommon in the All-Ireland final. This was their fourth All-Ireland title overall and their second in successive seasons. Tom Conaghan
Tom Conaghan is an Irish Gaelic football figure who managed Donegal county football teams during the 1980s and, later, the Sligo senior team. His former players regarded him as a disciplinarian in his approach to management. Conaghan managed Donegal to the 1982 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship. He later took over from Brian McEniff as senior manager when McEniff had led the 1983 Ulster Senior Football Championship campaign to a win. Over the course of his time as senior manager during the 1980s, Conaghan fell out with numerous players. He dropped Marty Carlin and Charlie Mulgrew from his team for one year after they played for Letterkenny in a Forster Cup final victory at Ravenhill in 1987. The 1978 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 92nd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter county, inter-county Gaelic football tournament. Donegal Senior Football Championship
The Donegal Senior Football Championship (abbreviated as Donegal SFC) is an annual football competition organised by Donegal GAA and contested by the highest-level clubs, to determine the best team in County Donegal. Since 2016, it has been known as Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Donegal SFC after its headline sponsor. Initially a straight knock-out competition, the Donegal SFC added a round-robin group stage in 2013. The final is played at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey. The winning club qualifies to represent its county in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which go on to compete in the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The winning club receives the Dr Maguire Cup. The competition has been won by 17 clubs, 14 of which have won it more than once.
