Don McKinnon (rugby League)
Don McKinnon (born 29 April 1955) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He was educated at North Sydney Boys High School. He played for the North Sydney Bears in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership as well as the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, and represented New South Wales and Australia. McKinnon only played as a Front-row Forward. Career North Sydney Bears McKinnon made his first grade debut for North Sydney under the coaching of former Manly-Warringah dual Grand Final winning Prop forward (1972 and 1973) and 1973 Kangaroo tourist Bill Hamilton. He would go on to play 183 games for the Bears between 1977 and 1987, scoring 28 tries. Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles He then signed to play with Manly in 1988 and played in six games, scoring one try. North Sydney Bears
The North Sydney Bears is an Australian rugby league football club based in North Sydney, New South Wales. The club competes in the New South Wales Cup, having exited the National Rugby League following the 1999 NRL season after 90 years in the premier rugby league competition in Australia. North Sydney is based on Sydney's Lower North Shore (Sydney), Lower North Shore, and has played at North Sydney Oval since 1910. There have been on-going bids to resurrect the club in the NRL as either ''The Bears'', based in Perth and Sydney, or as the Central Coast Bears, based at Gosford. 1982 State Of Origin Series
The 1982 State of Origin series was the first annual three-match series between New South Wales and Queensland to be played entirely under "state of origin" selection rules. After the matches in 1980 and 1981 that trialed the concept, 'Origin' was fully embraced in 1982, with no matches using the previous seventy-four years' residential-based selection rules ever played again. The series came down to the deciding third match, which a mistake-riddled New South Wales lost to a more professional Queensland. National Rugby League
The National Rugby League (NRL) is an Australasian rugby league club competition which contains clubs from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and New Zealand. The NRL formed in 1998 as a joint partnership between the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and media giant News Corporation-controlled Super League, in the aftermath of the 1990s Super League war, in which both ran parallel to each other in 1997. The partnership was dissolved in 2012, with control of the NRL going to the re-constituted ARL, which was re-structured with an independent board of directors and renamed the Australian Rugby League Commission. Harry McKinnon
Rawdon Henry McKinnon (1910–1989) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer, coach and administrator. Background McKinnon was born in Tamworth in 1910, the son of Henry and Agnes McKinnon. Playing career A prop-forward, he played for North Sydney for ten seasons between 1936 and 1945, including the 1943 Grand Final loss to Newtown then devoted a lifetime of service to the club. Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. Ninian Park
Ninian Park was a football stadium in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales, that was the home of Cardiff City F.C. for 99 years. Opened in 1910 with a single wooden stand, it underwent numerous renovations during its lifespan and hosted fixtures with over 60,000 spectators in attendance. At the time of its closure in 2009, it had a capacity of 21,508. Cardiff City had originally been playing home fixtures at Sophia Gardens but the lack of facilities at the ground had prevented them from joining the Southern Football League. To combat this, club founder Bartley Wilson secured a plot of land from Cardiff Corporation that had previously been used as a rubbish tip and construction of a new ground began in 1909. Wales National Rugby League Team
The Wales national rugby league team represents Wales in international rugby league football matches. Currently the team is ranked 17th in the IRL World Rankings. The team was run under the auspices of the Rugby Football League, but an independent body, Wales Rugby League, now runs the team from Cardiff. Six Welsh players have been entered into the Rugby League Hall Of Fame. As with other Welsh national sporting teams, Wales strip has been primarily red. However, in the World Cup campaign in 2000 they wore a shirt featuring the Welsh flag, adding a touch of green and white. The team is known as "The Dragons" and so the team's logo on the shirt is a red dragon.
