Don Massey
Donald Lee Massey is a former municipal and provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1993 until 2004. In that period he also served as Leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Alberta Liberal Party in 2004. From 1977 until 1989 he was a Public School Trustee in Edmonton. Municipal politics Massey first ran for public office in the 1974 Edmonton municipal election. He ran for the office of Public School Trustee finishing an eighth place with 23,471 votes. He was just 100 votes short from earning the seventh place seat that went to Mel Binder. He ran again for School Trustee in the 1977 Edmonton municipal election, this time there were two seats added. Massey won the fifth place seat with 33,444 votes. Massey would run as an incumbent in the 1980 Edmonton municipal election. He would see a significant drop in his popular vote, but would finish fourth place out of the top nine with 19,060 votes. ... The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. The Legislative Assembly currently has 87 members, elected first past the post from single-member electoral districts. Kevin Taft
Kevin Taft (born September 9, 1955) is an author, consultant, speaker, and former provincial politician in Alberta, Canada. Prior to his election, he worked in various public policy roles (1973-2000) in the Government of Alberta, private and non-profit sectors, in the areas of health, energy, and economic policy. From 1986 to 1991 he was CEO of the ExTerra Foundation, which conducted paleontological expeditions in China's Gobi Desert, Alberta's badlands, and the Canadian Arctic. He is the author of five books as well as several research studies and articles on political and economic issues in Alberta. In the mid-late 1990s Dr. Taft wrote two books critical of the ruling Progressive Conservatives. Ken Nicol is a Canadian politician and academic. He served as the MLA for Lethbridge-East from 1993 to 2004. During his final three years, he was the leader of the Alberta Liberal Party, and leader of the official opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. He was credited with bringing a more conciliatory approach in the legislature, different from his predecessor Nancy MacBeth, however his soft-spoken nature did not help the party rise in polls. Carl Benito
Carl Benito (born February 21, 1954) is a Filipino Canadians, Filipino Canadian former politician from Alberta. Benito served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the electoral district of Edmonton-Mill Woods as a member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, Progressive Conservative caucus from 2008 to 2012. Controversies Benito made a campaign promise that, if elected, he would donate his salary to charity. He later claimed that he didn't mean he'd give away his entire salary, just a part of it. Benito blamed his wife for a failure to pay property taxes on their rental properties. Benito later paid the taxes—but only after his picture appeared on the Edmonton Journal's front page under the headline, "Backbencher hasn't paid property taxes on rental properties."
