Don Livingstone
Donald Wallace Livingstone (1 October 1948 – 15 October 2015) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. Early life Donald Wallace Livingstone was born in Kingaroy, Queensland on 1 October 1948. He moved to Ipswich at the age of seven. He was married to his wife Cheryl in October 1972; the couple had two children. Livingstone and his wife owned two delicatessens, earning him the nickname "Deli Don". Politics Livingstone was a policy advisor to the Minister for Public Works and Housing before entering politics himself. He was the Labor Party's Queensland campaign director 1983–1986, and served on Ipswich City Council from 1985 to 1990. In 1989, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the Labor member for Ipswich West. In 1998, he was defeated by Jack Paff, the One Nation candidate. Wayne Goss
Wayne Keith Goss (26 February 1951 – 10 November 2014) was Premier of Queensland from 7 December 1989 until 19 February 1996, becoming the first Labor Premier of the state in over thirty two years. Prior to entering politics, Goss was a solicitor, and after leaving politics he served as Chairman of the Queensland Art Gallery and Chairman of Deloitte Australia. Early life He was born at Mundubbera, Queensland, and grew up at Inala where he was educated at Inala State High School and the University of Queensland where he earned a bachelor of laws degree. He worked as a solicitor and then with the Aboriginal Legal Service before setting up his own practice, but did not become a member of the Australian Labor Party until the dismissal of Gough Whitlam in November 1975. The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Leichhardt, Queensland
Leichhardt is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , Leichhardt had a population of 3,912 people. Geography The suburb is bounded to the south-west by the Bremer River, to the south by the Old Toowoomba Road, and to the north-east by the Bremer River again. Ipswich Golf Course occupies in the south-west of the suburb adjacent to the river. History The Ipswich Golf Club opened in 1898 as a membership-based organisation. It went into receivership in 2013 and was purchased by Terry Morris (founder of Sirromet Wines) and Dean Merrell. St Mark's Anglican Church opened circa 1935. Its closure on 15 November 1998 by Assistant Bishop Ray Smith. The suburb name was assigned following a request by local residents to the City of Ipswich in 1953. One Mile, Queensland
One Mile is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the One Mile had a population of 2,077 people. History One Mile was known as Moopi Moopi Pa by the Quandamooka people. The origin of the suburb name is from its approximate distance from the Ipswich CBD. It was one mile from the centre of Ipswich to the crossing of the Bremer River on the road to Toowoomba (now the Old Toowoomba Road). The bridge at this crossing was known as the One Mile Bridge until it was renamed the Don Livingstone One Mile Bridge in 2015 after Don Livingstone, a former Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the local area. The Bremer River is a river that is a tributary of the Brisbane River, located in the Scenic Rim Region, Scenic Rim and Brisbane regions of South East Queensland, Australia. The -long Bremer River drains several Scenic Rim valleys in south-east Queensland, including the Fassifern Valley, with its drainage basin, catchment area covering approximately . Most valleys within the catchment have extensive river terraces. The Bremer River system is extremely degraded. Paul Pisasale
Paul Pisasale is a former mayor of the City of Ipswich in Queensland, Australia, and convicted extortionist. Pisasale was mayor of Ipswich from 2004 to 2017, making him one of Queensland's longest-serving mayors, and was last elected in 2016 with 83.45% of the popular vote. He resigned as mayor in 2017 following a raid on his office by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission. He was subsequently charged with corruption in 2017. He was committed to stand trial on a number of other charges in 2019, including charges of sexual assault where he was accused of "unlawfully and indecently" assaulting an Ipswich woman, and charges of perjury. North Ipswich Reserve
North Ipswich Reserve presently known as Qld Group Stadium and formally Bendigo Bank Oval due to naming rights is a sports venue in Ipswich, Queensland. Originally an Australian rules football (and later cricket) oval, it became a primarily rugby league venue in the 1920s as that code experienced an explosion in local popularity. It is currently home to the Ipswich Jets, who play in the Queensland Wizard Cup. On occasion the venue plays host to National Rugby League trial matches, most recently when the Sydney Roosters played the Jets. In 2010 Brisbane Roar played an Ipswich invitation side made up of players from Ipswich Knights, Western Spirit FC and Ipswich City FC.
