Don Lane (politician)
Donald Frederick Lane (18 July 1935 – 11 March 1995) was a Minister of Transport in the Bjelke-Petersen state of Queensland's coalition government. A former policeman in the Special Branch, in 1971 he was elected as the Liberal member for Merthyr, an electorate which included the Fortitude Valley where a lot of the then illegal brothels and casinos were located. During his time with the Police, he had gotten to know Jack Herbert the Chief Organiser of The Joke, and the "Rat Pack" of Terry Lewis, Tony Murphy and Glenn Hallahan well. Following the 1983 Queensland state election he switched to the National Party (along with Brian Austin), providing it with an outright majority, and was rewarded with a ministry. Electoral District Of Merthyr
Merthyr was an electoral district An electoral district, also known as an election district, legislative district, voting district, constituency, riding, ward, division, or (election) precinct is a subdivision of a larger state (a country, administrative region, or other polity ... of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1992. First created for the 1912 state election, the district was based in inner Brisbane centred on the suburb of New Farm, covering areas that previously belonged to the district of Fortitude Valley. Merthyr was abolished by the 1991 redistribution, taking effect at the 1992 state election. Most of its territory was absorbed into the electorate of Brisbane Central with parts also added to the new district of Clayfield. Brian Austin
Brian Douglas Austin (born 22 March 1943) is an Australian politician and Minister of Health (1980–1983 and 1983 - 1986) and Minister for Finance and Minister Assisting the Premier and Treasurer (1987 - 1989) and who represented the state seat of Wavell for the Liberal Party (1977–1983) and then for the National Party (1983–1986). David Hamill
David John Hamill (born at Ipswich, Queensland on 18 September 1957) is a former Labor Queensland politician, who served in a number of positions including Minister for Transport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Economic and Trade Development, Minister for Education and treasurer. He was elected to the Queensland Parliament as member for Ipswich in 1983 and held the seat until 2001. He was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2001 and in 2009 he made a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia award. Pat Comben
Patrick "Pat" Comben AM (born 3 May 1950) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Weymouth in Dorset and was raised on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, attending the Portland Secondary Modern School. Leaving school at 16 he migrated by himself to Australia where worked initially as a farm hand, labourer and stockman. Attending night school as a mature aged student, he matriculated and attended the University of Queensland studying law and government, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. Terry White
Terrence Anthony "Terry" White (born 3 September 1936) is an Australian pharmacist, businessman, and former politician. White achieved notoriety when, as Queensland state leader of the Liberal Party he terminated the longstanding coalition agreement between the Liberal Party and the National Party of Joh Bjelke-Petersen. William Knox (Queensland Politician)
Sir William Edward Knox OSJ, KSJI (14 December 1927 – 22 September 2001) was born in Kew, Victoria, Australia and was the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland representing the district of Nundah for the Liberal Party between from 1957 to 1989. The ginger group, in Queensland politics was a group of Liberal Party MLAs during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, who despite nominally being a part of the government, were opposed to some of the policies of their senior coalition partner, the National Party. Llewellyn "Llew" Edwards (22 October 1894 – 1965) was a Welsh boxer who fought professionally between 1913 and 1922. He is most noted for winning both the British and the British Empire featherweight boxing titles in 1915 and for an outstanding winning record with a nearly 50% knockout ratio. Raymond Wells Whitrod, (16 April 1915 – 11 July 2003) was an Australian police officer and criminologist. He was considered a world leader in the way society treats victims of crime. He was known as a man of high professional standards, with a commitment to justice, equity and integrity. Samuel Raymond Ramsden (10 October 1913 – 1 July 1986) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Ramsden was born at Carlton, New South Wales, the son of Percy Charles Ramsden and his wife Kezia (née Clark). He was educated at Burwood Public School, New South Wales, Summer Hill Public School, Sydney, and Parramatta High School before attending St John's College, Morpeth where he studied theology. He was Curate of the NSW parish of Parkes in 1937 before becoming Rector of Geurie in 1939. He was in the RAAF in World War Two from 1942 to 1945, serving in the South-West Pacific with the fighter wing of the American invasion. 1946 found him in Port Moresby, working for the Department of Native Labour and he resigned from church appointments in the same year.
