Don Gale
Donald 'Don' Wilfred Gale (20 February 1935 – 22 August 2002) was an Australian rules football player who played for Wynyard and Burnie in the NWFU and Hobart in the TFL. He was selected in regional and state representative teams. Wynyard Gale began his senior career with Wynyard in 1953, debuting against Penguin on 18 April 1953. He performed so well in his first season that he finished fourth in the club best and fairest award. Unable to move to VFL He was signed by South Melbourne at the end of the 1954 season, but over the next couple of years was unable to obtain a clearance. Hobart and back to Wynyard Gale played with Hobart in 1957, but then returned to Wynyard in 1958. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Michael Gale (footballer)
Michael Gale (born 1966) is a former Australian rules football player who played in the VFL/AFL between 1985 and 1993 for the Fitzroy Football Club and then from 1994 to 1998 for the Richmond Football Club. His five seasons for the Tigers were played alongside his younger brother, Brendon. Their father, Don Gale, was a champion Tasmanian footballer who became the first player from the NWFU to achieve All Australian selection. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Brendon Gale
Brendon Gale (born 18 July 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). After his AFL playing career, Gale practiced law with commercial law firm King Wood Mallesons, until serving as chief executive officer of the AFL Players' Association from 2005 to 2009. He was also a member of the AFL's " Laws of the Game" or Rules Committee. On 10 August 2009, he was appointed CEO of Richmond. Playing career Gale played for the Richmond Football Club from 1990 to 2001 as a centre half-forward and later ruckman. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). North Western Football Union
The North West Football Union (NWFU) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and Northern Tasmanian Football Association representing the rest of the state. Burnie, Latrobe and Ulverstone were the most successful clubs with 12 premierships each. The league disbanded after the 1986 season after major clubs such as Cooee and Devonport defected to the TFL Statewide League. In 1987 the NWFU effectively merged with the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) to form the Northern Tasmanian Football League, which exists today as the North West Football League.
