Dominus (band)
Dominus was a Danish death and groove metal band from Ringsted that formed in 1991 and split up in 2000/2001. They released one single, two demos and four albums. Though mostly known for their first two death metal albums, they moved into a groove metal direction on 1997's ''Vol.Beat'' release and would go on to fuse that sound with thrash metal and returning death metal elements on their final release, 2000's ''Godfallos''. When the band split up after their last album, lead singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen went on to form the band Volbeat, named after the Dominus album ''Vol.Beat'' and continuing that overall sound with a wide array of different influences. Jens Peter Storm would go on to perform lead guitar in the Danish thrash metal band TONS, a band which also featured fellow Dominus member Daniel Preisler Larsen. Ringsted
Ringsted is a city located centrally in the Danish island of Zealand. It is the seat of a municipality of the same name. Ringsted is situated approximately 60 km from Copenhagen. Groove Metal
Groove metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that began in the early 1990s. The genre achieved success in the 1990s and continued having success in the 2000s. Inspired by thrash metal and traditional heavy metal, groove metal features raspy singing and screaming, down-tuned guitars, heavy guitar riffs, and syncopated rhythms. Unlike thrash metal, groove metal is usually slower and also uses elements of traditional heavy metal. Pantera are often considered the pioneers of groove metal, and groove metal expanded in the 1990s with bands like White Zombie, Machine Head, and Sepultura. Volbeat are a Danish rock band formed in Copenhagen in 2001. They play a fusion of rock and roll, heavy metal, and rockabilly. Their current line-up consists of vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, guitarist Rob Caggiano, drummer Jon Larsen and bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen. Michael Poulsen
Michael Schøn Poulsen (born 1 April 1975) is a Danish singer, guitarist and songwriter. He is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter of rock band Volbeat. Prior to Volbeat, Poulsen was the vocalist for the death metal band Dominus. Early life Poulsen grew up in Ringsted, Denmark, which is about a from Copenhagen, in a working-class family. He has a twin sister and two older sisters, who are also twins. His parents were big fans of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Chuck Berry. As a teenager, he got in touch with metal music like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Iced Earth and Black Sabbath. Franz Gottschalk
Franz Gottschalk is a Danish guitarist and bassist. He played in the death metal band Illdisposed and is a former member of Volbeat, Dominus and Hypodermic. Gottschalk who is known under his nickname "Hellboss" was a member of the band Hypodermic with whom he released a record called "In Between". After Hypodermic split up, he founded the death metal band "Deadly Sins" with friends Lars B.(Koldborn), Rasmus, Huhle and Brian Jensen. In the late 1990s, he joined Dominus and played bass on their final record "Godfallos" in 2000. A year later, Dominus split-up and their singer Michael Poulsen founded Volbeat. Gottschalk joined Volbeat in 2002 replacing their original guitarist Teddy Vang.
