Dominique Tian
Dominique Tian (born 14 December 1959) is a French businessman and retired politician who represented the 2nd constituency of the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the National Assembly from 2002 to 2017. He has been member of The Republicans (LR) since the party was founded in 2015 as the successor to the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP). In the 2017 legislative election, Tian lost his seat in a "surprise" upset by Claire Pitollat of La République En Marche! (LREM), who was a first-time candidate. Tian also held offices at the municipal and departmental level. He first served the member of the General Council of Bouches-du-Rhône for the canton of Marseille-Saint-Giniez from 1988 to 2002 as the successor of Jean-Claude Gaudin, before holding the mayorship of the 4th sector of Marseille, which encompasses the 6th and 8th arrondissements, from 1995 to 2013. Marseille ( , , ; also spelled in English as Marseilles; oc, Marselha ) is the prefecture of the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône and capital of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Jean-Claude Gaudin
Jean-Claude Gaudin (; born 8 October 1939) is a French politician for The Republicans. He served as the Mayor of Marseille from 1995 to 2020. He was a member of the National Assembly of France from Bouches-du-Rhône from 1978 to 1989 and has been a member of the French Senate from 1989 to 1995 and again from 1998. From 1995 to 1997, he served as Minister of Territorial Development in Alain Juppé's Second Cabinet. ''Le Monde'' (; ) is a French daily afternoon newspaper. It is the main publication of Le Monde Group and reported an average circulation of 323,039 copies per issue in 2009, about 40,000 of which were sold abroad. 2020 French Municipal Elections
The 2020 French municipal elections were held from 15 March to 28 June to renew the municipal councils of the approximately 35,000 French communes. The first round took place on 15 March and the second round was postponed to 28 June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Electoral system Municipal elections in France result in the renewal of the members of municipal councils in every commune, and are held every 6 years. With the exception of Paris, Lyon, and Marseille, the electoral subdivision is the commune itself. In Paris, separate elections are held for each arrondissement, as is the case in Lyon, where elections are also held by arrondissement; in Marseille, elections are held within sectors containing two arrondissements each. Michèle Rubirola
Michèle Rubirola (born 28 July 1956) is a French politician who served as Mayor of Marseille from 4 July to 21 December 2020. A physician by occupation, she succeeded Jean-Claude Gaudin, who chose not to run for reelection to a fifth term in office and endorsed his long-term deputy Martine Vassal, who lost the mayorship race following the municipal election in June 2020. A member of Europe Ecology – The Greens (EELV), Rubirola is the first female Mayor of Marseille. Her grandparents came from Catalonia and Naples. Benoît Payan
Benoît Payan (born 31 January 1978) is a French politician who has served as Mayor of Marseille since 2020. He is a member of the Socialist Party (PS). Early life Payan was born and raised in Pont-de-Vivaux, in the 10th arrondissement of Marseille. During his studies to become a notary, he joined the Young Socialist Movement. Career Elected as a city councillor in 2014, Payan became leader of the Socialist group and the opposition to conservative mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin in 2016.
