Dominic Wong
Dominic Wong Shing-wah, GBS, OBE, JP (; 13 April 1942 – May 2012) was an official in the Hong Kong Government. Wong retired in 2002 from the Hong Kong Government as Secretary for Housing, after a 40-year career in public service. Career In 1962, Wong joined the Hong Kong Government and served in the Certificated Master, Executive Officer and Trade Officer Grades. In 1973, Wong became an Administrative Officer. In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Director of Bureau. Wong had served in various policy bureaus and departments. Senior positions held by Wong include: Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service (January 1984 – January 1988); Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower (January 1988 – September 1989); Postmaster General (September 1989 – May 1992) and Director of Education (July 1992 – December 1994). The Gold Bauhinia Star (, GBS) is the highest Bauhinia Star rank in the honours system of Hong Kong, created in 1997 to replace the British honours system of the Order of the British Empire after the transfer of sovereignty to People's Republic of China and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Handover Of Hong Kong
Sovereignty of Hong Kong was transferred from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China (PRC) at midnight on 1 July 1997. This event ended 156 years of British rule in the former colony. Hong Kong was established as a special administrative region of China (SAR) for 50 years, maintaining its own economic and governing systems from those of mainland China during this time, although influence from the central government in Beijing increased after the passing of the Hong Kong national security law in 2020. Hong Kong had been a colony of the British Empire since 1841, except for four years of Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945. Laryngeal Cancer
Laryngeal cancers are mostly squamous-cell carcinomas, reflecting their origin from the epithelium of the larynx. Cancer can develop in any part of the larynx. The prognosis is affected by the location of the tumour. For the purposes of staging, the larynx is divided into three anatomical regions: the glottis (true vocal cords, anterior and posterior commissures); the supraglottis (epiglottis, arytenoids and aryepiglottic folds, and false cords); and the subglottis. Most laryngeal cancers originate in the glottis, with supraglottic and subglottic tumours being less frequent. Laryngeal cancer may spread by: direct extension to adjacent structures, metastasis to regional cervical lymph nodes, or via the blood stream. The most common site of distant metastases is the lung. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female.
