Dominic Toubeix
Dominic Toubeix (b.1927), sometimes known as Dominic, was a French fashion designer who worked for some time in New York in the 1960s. Early life and career Toubeix was born in Paris around 1927. He trained in the couture industry, first for Marcel Rochas, and then as an assistant to Antonio del Castillo whilst he was heading the house of Lanvin. Toubeix worked with Castillo for ten years. After Castillo was let go by Lanvin in 1962, Toubeix protested what he saw as his mentor's unfair treatment by throwing a rock through the window of the Lanvin establishment on the Rue d'Boissy Anglais, for which he spent a night in police custody. After this, Toubeix went to New York. New York career In 1963, Toubeix became a partner in the firm of Matty Talmack, which was founded in 1949. Marcel Rochas
Rochas is a fashion design, fashion, cosmetics, beauty, and perfume house founded in 1925 by French designer Marcel Rochas, the first designer of 2/3-length coats and skirts with pockets and one of the two designers, along with Elsa Schiaparelli, who launched the fashion for shoulder pads (fashion), padded shoulders in 1931. Rochas had been known primarily for its signature perfume, "Perfume#Famous perfumes classified by year of creation, Femme," which was packaged in a pink box with black lace. Antonio Castillo (costume Designer)
Antonio Cánovas del Castillo de Rey (13 December 1908 – 13 May 1984), known professionally as Antonio Castillo, was a Spanish fashion and costume designer who won an Academy Award for the film ''Nicholas and Alexandra'' in the category Academy Award for Best Costume Design during the 1971 Academy Awards, that he won along with Yvonne Blake. Biography Antonio Cánovas del Castillo de Rey was born in 1908 in Madrid. He was educated in his home city at the Colegio del Pilar and the University of Madrid before studying in Granada at the El Sacro Monte. In 1936 the Spanish Civil War started and Castillo went to Paris. He spent some time as a diplomat until in 1949 he became a designer for Paquin and Robert Piguet. Lanvin () is a French Luxury goods, luxury fashion house based in Paris. Founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, it is the oldest French fashion house still in operation. Since 2018, it has been a subsidiary of Shanghai-based Lanvin Group. Bruno Sialelli, a 31-year-old French designer, was named Creative Director of Lanvin in January 2019. The Coty American Fashion Critics' Awards (awarded 1943–1984) were created in 1942 by the cosmetics and perfume company Coty, Inc. to promote and celebrate American fashion, and encourage design during the Second World War. Chester Weinberg
Chester Weinberg (1930-1985) was an American fashion designer. While he was very highly regarded for his design work in the 1960s and early 1970s, he is now mainly known for being the fashion industry's first high-profile AIDS-related death. Early life and education Chester Weinberg was born in New York on 30 September 1930. He was Jewish. Weinberg graduated from Parsons School of Design, Parsons in 1951, and between 1955 and 1985 regularly returned to the school as a guest lecturer and visiting critic. He also taught at the Art Institute of Chicago. Career After spending the 1950s and early 1960s working for various Seventh Avenue (Manhattan), Seventh Avenue clothing houses, Weinberg launched his own label in 1966, which ran until 1975. Luba Marks
Luba Marks (November 28, 1921 – July 5, 2020) was a Bulgarian-born French-American fashion designer of Russian descent specializing in sportswear from the 1950s to the 1980s. Prior to this, under the name Lubov Roudenko, she was a former soloist for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the late 1930s and early 1940s, afterwards performing on Broadway throughout the 1940s. Early life Lubou Rodenko was born 28 November 1921 in Sofia, Bulgaria, to Russian parents. Her father, Nicholas, had been an officer in the Russian Imperial Guard, and following the Russian Revolution, he and his wife became refugees while the rest of their family were killed. They moved to Paris, where Nicholas Rodenko ran a Russian restaurant until it was forced to close following the 1932 assassination of President Paul Doumer by a Russian émigré.
