Dolorean
Dolorean is an American rock band based in Portland, Oregon. Their current line-up is Al James, guitar/vocals, Jay Clarke, organ/piano, Ben Nugent, drums/percussion/vocals, James Adair, bass, and Jon Neufeld, guitar. They have released four studio albums. Their most recent, '' The Unfazed'', reached No. 41 on the Top Heatseekers chart. The group has worked with Portland area musicians such as Jay Clarke who records with Knitting Factory Records under the moniker Ash Black Bufflo, and Emil Amos who records on Partisan Records under the moniker Holy Sons. History Early releases (2001-2003) The band Dolorean was founded in 1999 in Silverton, Oregon. Local songwriter Al James asked arranger and pianist Jay Clarke to play on a "slew of his quiet, avant folk home recordings." After self-releasing an EP, ''Sudden Oak,'' and performing a number of shows around Oregon as a duo, by 2001 Dolorean had resettled in Portland. You Can't Win (album)
''You Can't Win'' is the third full-length by Dolorean, released in 2007 on Yep Roc Records. The album was largely well received by professional critics, and met with positive reviews in '' Q'' and ''Uncut''. History Production On a post on Yep Roc's Website, frontman Al James wrote "Neil Young used to book studio time and shows for himself and Crazy Horse without rehearsing new songs with the band." James booked several shows and several subsequent dates in a recording studio as a result. "The performances were raw, passionate, and loose - everything that we hadn't been able to capture on previous recordings." Beyond Dolorean, Emil Amos of Holy Sons also contributed guitar. Not Exotic
''Not Exotic'' is the debut full-length album by Dolorean, released in 2003 on Yep Roc Records. The songs grew out of frontman Al James's home recordings. It met with a largely positive reception in the music press. History Production and release Dolorean began recordings its debut LP in 2001, with rock producer Jeff Saltzman engineering the album and providing the bass lines at Larry Crane's Jackpot Studio. To perform the music live, James Adair joined the group on bass. Copies of ''Not Exotic'' were self-released by the band in the middle of 2002, though the official release came a year later in November 2003, when the band signed a two-album deal with Yep Roc Records in North Carolina. Violence In The Snowy Fields
''Violence in the Snowy Fields'' is the second full-length by Dolorean, released in 2004 on Yep Roc Records. The album is slightly more up-tempo than their debut ''Not Exotic''. Reviews have made comparisons to the Band and '' Wild Honey''-era Beach Boys. It received a favorable review from The A.V. Club, and a mixed review from PopMatters. History Production and release ''Violence in the Snowy Fields'' was recorded throughout 2003 and 2004, with the four members of Dolorean providing most of the arrangement and instruments. Guest artist Emil Amos also provided additional piano and guitar, while the album's producer, Jeff Saltzman, also provided guitar. Bruce Kaphan also contributed additional pedal steel guitar. Ash Black Bufflo, sometimes spelled ''Buffalo'', is the professional name of Portland-based music composer and experimental musician Jay Clarke. He composes music for feature-length films, short films, documentaries, and dance and theater projects. He is notable for scoring the music for the documentary '' Marwencol'' which won the Jury Prize at the South by Southwest film festival and received positive critical attention. He created soundscapes for theatrical productions such as ''My Mind Is Like an Open Meadow'', which received positive reviews in ''Willamette Week''. Black Prairie
__NOTOC__ Black Prairie is a six-piece string band from Portland, Oregon. The band formed in early 2007. Their first album, '' Feast of the Hunter's Moon'', was released on April 6, 2010, on the Sugar Hill label. History The band began when The Decemberists' Chris Funk (dobro) and Nate Query (bass) had some time off from touring and decided to put together a side project. Other members of the band include The Decemberists' accordion player Jenny Conlee and drummer John Moen, singer and violinist Annalisa Tornfelt of Bearfoot and The Woolwines, and guitarist Jon Neufeld of Dolorean and Jackstraw. The band performed at the South by Southwest festival in March 2010, Oregon's Pickathon Festival in August 2010, and toured in October 2010. Partisan Records
Partisan Records is an independent record label with offices in London and Los Angeles, as well as in New York City, where the company was co-founded in 2007 by Tim Putnam and Ian Wheeler. The label, initially run out of Putnam’s South Brooklyn apartment, relocated in 2009 to their flagship office in Williamsburg where they still reside. Holy Sons (‘Decline Of The West’) was the first release on the label, and early success followed shortly thereafter with the release of Deer Tick (‘War Elephant’). Yep Roc Records is an American independent record label based in Hillsborough, North Carolina, and owned by Redeye Distribution. Peter Broderick
Peter Broderick (born January 20, 1987) is an American musician and composer from Carlton, Oregon. He has released solo material under his own name, been a member of Efterklang, and played with several ensembles as a session musician. Biography Broderick was born in Searsmont, Maine in 1987 but raised mostly in Carlton, Oregon. He learned a number of musical instruments whilst at school, and went on to become a session musician, playing violin, banjo, musical saw, and mandolin on recordings by M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Dolorean and others. He played and toured with numerous groups, including Horse Feathers, Norfolk & Western, Loch Lomond and Laura Gibson. Damien Jurado
Damien Jurado is an American singer-songwriter from Seattle, Washington, United States. Over the years, he has released albums on Sub Pop, Secretly Canadian, Loose, and is currently on his own label Maraqopa Records. Music career Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings.
