Djesse Vol. 1
''Djesse Vol. 1'' is the first album in the ''Djesse'' series by Jacob Collier. The album features the Metropole Orkest, and was released on 7 December 2018. ''Djesse'' is a planned collection of four volumes which was announced 29 October 2018. Each record represents a different part of the day, with the first record describing daybreak. The title ''Djesse'', which is pronounced with a silent D (), is a reference to Collier's own initials. The songs in this volume feature numerous styles, and reviewers have drawn parallels to such composers and musicians as Stravinsky and J Dilla. The third track, "With the Love in My Heart", was released 2 November 2018 as a single, in anticipation of the album's release. Two further singles, "Ocean Wide, Canyon Deep" and "All Night Long", were released on 29 November. Jacob Collier
Jacob Collier (; né Moriarty; born 2 August 1994) is an English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. His music incorporates a combination of jazz with elements from many other musical genres, and often features extensive use of reharmonisations and close harmony. He is also known for his energetic live performances, in which he often conducts the audience to sing multiple-part harmonies or percussions. In 2012, his split-screen video covers of popular songs, such as Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing", began to go viral on YouTube. In 2014, Collier signed with Quincy Jones's management company and began working on his one-man, audio-visual live performance vehicle, designed and built at the MIT Media Lab by Ben Bloomberg. Hamid El Kasri
Hamid El Kasri ( ar, حميد القصري; born 1961) is a Moroccan Gnawa musician traditionally considered a ''maâlem'' ( ar, مُعَلِّم), or "master musician". Born in Ksar El Kebir, Morocco, he now lives in Rabat. He began training at age seven, taught by Maâlem Abdelouahed Stitou and Maâlem Alouane. El Kasri is famed for his deep, intense voice, which has made him one of the most sought-after maâlems, both in Morocco and abroad. In addition to singing, he performs on the ''guembri'' (), a three-stringed bass instrument. He is noted for having blended the Gnawa rhythms of the north and south of the Morocco.
