Dixiecrat Party
The States' Rights Democratic Party (whose members are often called the Dixiecrats) was a short-lived Racial segregation, segregationist political party in the United States, active primarily in Southern United States, the South. It arose due to a Southern regional split in opposition to the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. After President Harry S. Truman, a member of the Democratic Party, ordered racial integration, integration of the military in 1948 and other actions to address civil rights of African Americans, many Southern conservative white politicians who objected to this course organized themselves as a breakaway faction. The Dixiecrats wished to protect Southern states' rights to maintain racial segregation in the United States, racial segregation. White supremacy or white supremacism is the belief that white people are superior to those of other races and thus should dominate them. The belief favors the maintenance and defense of any power and privilege held by white people. White supremacy has roots in the now-discredited doctrine of scientific racism and was a key justification for European colonialism. As a political ideology, it imposes and maintains cultural, social, political, historical, and/or institutional domination by white people and non-white supporters.
