Diving At The 2022 Commonwealth Games – Women's 1 Metre Springboard
The women's 1 metre springboard is part of the Diving at the 2022 Commonwealth Games program. The competition will be held on 5 August 2022 at Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham. Format The competition will be held in two rounds: * Preliminary round: All divers perform five dives; the top 12 divers advance to the final. * Final: The 12 divers perform five dives; the preliminary round scores are erased and the top three divers win the gold, silver and bronze medals accordingly. Sandwell Aquatics Centre
Sandwell Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility located in Londonderry, Smethwick, West Midlands, England. It contains an Olympic-size swimming pool (one of only two in the West Midlands region), a 10-metre diving board with 25 metre pool (the only one in the whole of the Midlands), a community swimming pool and permanent seating for 1,000 spectators with an additional 4,000 seats during the Games. Construction began in January 2020 and opened on 12th April 2022 to mark 100 days until the start of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The centre was initially used for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was the only venue constructed for the games. After the games, the centre is scheduled to be redeveloped and will officially open for public use in May 2023 when it will be operated by the Sandwell Leisure Trust. Georgia Rae Leslie Sheehan (born 10 July 1999) is an Australian diver. Sheehan competed in the women's 1 metre springboard event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. She competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 where she won a gold medal in the women's synchronised 3 metre springboard event alongside Esther Qin and in 2022 where she came 5th in the women's 1 metre springboard event and 7th in the women's 3 metre springboard event. Margo Claire Erlam (born June 18, 2002) is a Canadian diver in the springboard (1 and 3 metre) events. Erlam is currently based out of and trains at the Saskatoon Diving Club. Career Erlam made her national team debut at the 2017 FINA Grand Prix held in Puerto Rico. At the 2022 FINA Grand Prix stop in Calgary, Erlam and partner Mia Vallée won the gold medal in the 3 metres synchro event, in their second competition together. Erlam's strong performances in 2022 led her to be named to 2022 World Aquatics Championships team. Career Harper was a multiple British champion before she represented England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the 1m and 3m springboard events. Esther Qin (; born 18 November 1991) is a Chinese-born Australian retired diver. Personal life Qin was born in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China to a Zhuang family. Her family moved to Australia in 2009, as her father had found a position as a chef. Diving career In China Qin started diving at the age of eleven in China and competed in several national competitions. For Australia Qin competed at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, won a silver medal in the 3m synchronised with Samantha Mills. She also competed in the 1 m and 3 m springboard. Grace Elizabeth Reid (born 9 May 1996) is a Scottish diver representing Scotland and Great Britain, and specialising in 1 metre and 3 metre springboard disciplines. She is a double gold medalist at both the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games, and a three-time national champion.
