Discovery Channel Europe
Discovery Channel (Europe) is the Pan-European version of the Discovery Channel. Over the years, the Discovery Channel has been split into many different channels for specific regions. Most language regions in Western Europe now have their own versions of the channel, and the Pan-European is therefore now mostly available in countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The channel is broadcast from the United Kingdom and holds an Ofcom licence. The channel was registered as "Discovery Channel Europe" until August 2006, when it changed its name to "Discovery (Central & Eastern Europe inc. Russia)". Later it changed back to Discovery Channel (Europe). Discovery Channel (Europe) was launched from the UK in 1989. It launched on the Astra satellite in 1993. 1080i
1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. The term assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 (a rectangular TV that is wider than it is tall), so the 1080 lines of vertical resolution implies 1920 columns of horizontal resolution, or 1920 pixels × 1080 lines. Discovery Channel (Flemish TV Channel)
Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) is a television channel which broadcasts to the Flemish market. The channel launched on the analogue network of the major Flemish cable company Telenet on October 1, 2009. Prior to that the Dutch version of Discovery had been available digitally in the area. The launch increased Discovery's reach in the Flemish region to 2.4 million households. The launch of Discovery Channel on Telenet coincided with a major shift in the Telenet analogue offer, which also saw the launch of EXQI Plus and vtmKzoom. Advertising sales for the channel was initially handled by the established Belgian channel Vitaya. At launch, hope was expressed that the channel would eventually carry original Flemish content. Discovery Channel (Swedish TV Channel)
Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) is the Swedish language version of the Discovery Channel, using a "factual entertainment" concept similar to the original American channel. As of 2006, it was the eighth most watched channel in Sweden (MMS). The channel used to broadcast the same schedule as the other Discovery channels in the Nordic countries, but with Swedish language presentation, advertising and subtitles. In spring 2007, the Swedish channel differentiated itself from the Nordic sister channels and started using Swedish voice-overs in the programmes and a schedule specially adapted for the Swedish market. Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) was a television channel which broadcasts to Russia and all of the CIS countries. Broadcasts in Russia were closed on March 9, 2022. According to viewing research, Discovery had the second largest reach of all non-terrestrial television channels in the beginning of 2009; only the news channel RBC TV was more popular. In late 2007, Discovery switched to the ABS 1 satellite, meaning it would extend its reach eastwards and be accessible in all of Russia, as well as several countries in Central Asia. Advertising sales started soon thereafter, on December 1, 2007. Discovery's ad sales in Russia were handled by a company called Video International. Discovery Channel Poland is a Polish television channel. It shows factual entertainment programming, just as its many siblings around the world. Discovery Channel has been available in Poland at least since 1998 when the Wizja TV platform launched. The dedicated Polish schedule was launched in 2002. The channel started using the new Discovery Channel logo on 1 July 2009. Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) is a Norwegian television channel. Norway is one of the Discovery Channel's strongest markets and the channel regularly has an overall share of viewing of about two percent. It is most popular among younger men. Discovery Channel used to have one feed covering all four Nordic countries. Special feeds have been launched for Discovery Channel Denmark in 2001 and Discovery Channel Sweden in 2003. Discovery Channel is an Italian television channel. Discovery Channel was launched on September 1, 1997, on the pay-television platforms TELE+ Digitale and Stream TV and has been exclusive to Sky Italia since its launch in 2003.
