Discordia (band)
Discordia was an industrial band from Melbourne in the mid 90s. One of a number of bands with that name, it was formed by members of Soulscraper. Discordia were set to be the first Australian band signed to Roadrunner records, but was not due to conflicts. Discordia began life when Sade Lava met James Lynch at Relic Records; the original concept was for Sade to join Soulscraper as vocalist. Over time it was felt a heavier direction was required, so James, Jim and Sade created Discordia. Industrial Music
Industrial music is a genre of music that draws on harsh, mechanical, transgressive or provocative sounds and themes. AllMusic defines industrial music as the "most abrasive and aggressive fusion of rock and electronic music" that was "initially a blend of avant-garde electronics experiments (tape music, musique concrète, white noise, synthesizers, sequencers, etc.) and punk provocation". The term was coined in the mid-1970s with the founding of Industrial Records by members of Throbbing Gristle and Monte Cazazza. While the genre name originated with Throbbing Gristle's emergence in the United Kingdom, artists and labels vital to the genre also emerged in the United States and other countries. Melbourne
Melbourne ( ; Boonwurrung/Woiwurrung: ''Narrm'' or ''Naarm'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Dreadnaught (heavy Metal Band)
Dreadnaught is a metal band from Melbourne, Australia. The group was formed out of the remnants of some Tasmanian bands including Fridge from Launceston who recorded an album in 1994. The band recorded a single titled ''Flowers'' in 1995 that was released on cassette by Melbourne label Subversive. The following year the full-length album '' Body.Blood.Skin.Mind'' saw release on Deported. This album displayed a combination of dark, introspective rock and melodic, progressive thrash metal. Citing a breach of contract from the label that stemmed from inadequate promotion, Dreadnaught had the album re-released on BlahBlahBlah Records in 1997. In the meantime, the band was forced to change the spelling of its name from the original "Dreadnought" to the current affectation when it was discovered that Queensland finance company Dreadnought Finance held a trademark on the name. Soulscraper
Soulscraper were an Australian alternative electronic-rock band based in Melbourne. The band formed circa 1991 by ex-members of an alternative / industrial influenced band called The Prostitutes. Soulscraper were Chris Dubrow on guitar and lead vocals; James Lynch on drums; Sarah Lord on bass guitar; Elenor Rayner on rhythm samples; and Jim Shnookal on lead samples. They combined samplers and audio loops played live with acoustic drums and aggressive punk influenced guitars. The sound was influenced by alternative, industrial, goth, punk, and dance music, combined with an Australian Pub rock live music sensibility. The band released two EP's, "Heard it all before" (1992) and "Neo-Anarcho" (1993) and both received considerable national airplay on radio station Triple J as well as Australian alternative clubs and community radio stations such as 3RRR. Shreen is a band from Melbourne. They formed after the breakup of Nursery Crimes. They released one full-length album, the 11 track ''Accelerate'' (Hypnotised). Their single "Beautiful Loser" achieved high rotation on Triple J. Damaged (band)
Damaged was an Australian deathgrind band from Ballarat, Victoria, active from 1989 to 2004. History The band was formed by drummer Matt "Skitz" Sanders. Mat Silcock and Chris Hill were the two original guitarists, with bass player Jason Parker and singer James Ludbrook. The band's first demo, ''The Art of Destroying Life'', appeared in 1992; the next year they released their first album, ''Do Not Spit'', on Black Hole Records. In 1994 Damaged toured with Cannibal Corpse. Silcock left Damaged in 1996, and around the same time, due to a dispute with label Black Hole Records, Damaged disbanded. Hill joined Melbourne band Discordia; Sanders toured Europe as drummer with Sadistik Exekution and played in Abramelin.
