''Discography'' is a compilation album by American rock band Jesuit. Released on April 12, 2011, through Magic Bullet Records, the album features every song recorded by the hardcore punk group during their tenure in the mid and late 1990s. Jesuit released a demo tape, two self-titled EPs, and a Black Sabbath cover before disbanding. In 2021, ''Discography'' was reissued by Dark Operative for Jesuit's 25th anniversary. Reception Shawn Macomber of '' Decibel'' magazine awarded the album a 9 out of 10 rating, describing it as "a beautifully remastered collection documenting the all-too-fleeting existence of one of the seminal bands that made post-post-hardcore's mid-'90s vicious turn so darkly exhilarating." Writing for ''RVA Magazine'', Marilyn Drew Necci said "Jesuit’s music stands the test of time better than the vast majority of their contemporaries" and that "the remastering job also aids the songs immeasurably". Jesuit (band)
Jesuit was an American hardcore punk band from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Active in the mid and late 1990s, the group released twelve songs but disbanded before recording a full-length album. In 2011, Jesuit played reunion shows and released the compilation album ''Discography'', which includes remastered versions of all of the band's songs. History Original run (1995–99) Jesuit formed in 1995 with drummer Jason Howard, bassist Brett Matthews, and guitarists Nate Newton (ex-Channel) and Kelly Posadas. The band's demo, a three-song EP, was recorded by Bob Gurske and self-released on cassette. In 1996, the group released a self-titled three-song EP, produced by Kurt Ballou, on 7" vinyl through Reservoir Records. The same year, a CD was released on Reservoir which includes eight songs: the three songs from the 7", two additional songs from the same recording session, and the three songs from Jesuit's demo tape. In These Black Days
''In These Black Days: A Tribute to Black Sabbath'' is the name of a six-volume Black Sabbath tribute series, released in the late 1990s as a series of split 7" singles by various artists on Hydra Head Records. A double CD compiling all of the songs from the 7"s with additional Black Sabbath covers from other bands associated with Hydra Head Records was planned for years, but has not been released. Florian Bertmer
Florian Bertmer is a German illustrator from the hardcore punk, grindcore and metal scene. He has done artwork for bands like Converge, Napalm Death, The Hope Conspiracy, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, Doomriders, Kirk Hammett, Lucasfilm, Alamo Drafthouse and others. His early works were reminiscent of Pushead while his later works have become more influenced by Art Nouveau and Occultism . He fronted the band Cheerleaders Of The Apocalypse. He has also created several official movie posters in collaboration with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and has designed deck art for skateboard companies such as Creature Skateboards or Substance Abuse. Jacob Bannon
Jacob Bannon (born October 15, 1976) is an American musician who is the vocalist, lyricist and graphic artist for the metalcore band Converge. He is the co-founder and owner of the record label Deathwish Inc. and the author of many visual works for independent punk rock and heavy metal musicians. Bannon has also composed and performed experimental music as Supermachiner with Ryan Parker and more recently as Wear Your Wounds. Personal life Bannon was born in 1976. He grew up splitting his time between Andover in the Merrimack Valley, Charlestown, and East Boston on some weekends. At 17, he graduated High School early and chose to work until heading to college. Nate Newton (musician)
Nate Eight Newton (born October 9, 1975) is the American bassist and backing vocalist of the hardcore punk band Converge, the rock band Cave In, and he plays guitar and sings in Old Man Gloom and Doomriders. Newton was also a guitarist and vocalist in Jesuit and bassist in Cavalera Conspiracy Newton was a vegetarian for several years, before he returned to eating meatball sandwiches. Career In 1998, Converge bassist Stephen Brodsky left the band and was replaced by Newton, who initially joined the band as a part-time member while he was still active in another band, Jesuit. Jesuit later disbanded in 1999, allowing Newton to make Converge his main focus. In late 2013, Newton was recruited by Cavalera Conspiracy to contribute on bass guitar for their third studio album. Brian Benoit
Brian Benoit is a former guitarist for The Dillinger Escape Plan.Harkness, Geoff"Quintet overcomes tragedy" ''Lawrence Journal-World'', September 7, 2000, p. Mag-2. Retrieved on May 30, 2013. Before playing in Dillinger, Brian played in Jesuit with eventual Converge bassist Nate Newton. Brian joined Dillinger Escape Plan prior to recording '' Calculating Infinity'' and performed on the EP ''Irony Is a Dead Scene'' and LP '' Miss Machine''. In late 2004, just after the release of '' Miss Machine'', Brian developed nerve damage in his left hand, which forced him to leave the band in 2005. He was replaced on tour by James Love and Jeff Tuttle, though Ben Weinman was the only guitar player on subsequent releases. Frontman Greg Puciato said that Brian still had a place in the band should he be able to return; he eventually did return for two of Dillinger's final three shows on December 27th and 28th, 2017.
