Disaster Of Sweden
The Disaster of Sweden ( es, Desastre de Suecia) is the name given to the early elimination of the Argentina football team from the 1958 FIFA World Cup at the hands of the Czechoslovakia football team. The match was played on June 15, 1958, at the Olympiastadion in the city of Helsingborg, Sweden, the host country of the championship. That day, Czechoslovakia beat Argentina 6–1. The final result means the heaviest defeat for the Albiceleste team in a FIFA World Cup. Background Before that meeting, the two teams had only met once, on August 16, 1956, at El Gasómetro in Buenos Aires with a 1–0 victory for the locals. 1958 FIFA World Cup
The 1958 FIFA World Cup was the sixth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Sweden from 8 to 29 June 1958. It was the first FIFA World Cup to be played in a Nordic country. Brazil beat Sweden 5–2 in the final in the Stockholm suburb of Solna to claim their first title. The tournament also marked the arrival of a then 17-year-old Pelé on the world stage. This was the first appearance of Wales at the FIFA World Cup and they would not qualify for another until 64 years later. There were also debut appearances for Northern Ireland and the Soviet Union. Guillermo Stábile
Guillermo Stábile (17 January 1905 – 26 December 1966) was an Argentine professional football player and manager who played as a centre forward. At club level, Stábile won two national championships with Huracán and played in Italy and France. He was the top scorer of 1930 World Cup, the inaugural iteration of the tournament.
