Dirk Baert
Dirk Baert (born 14 February 1949) is a Belgian retired road and track cyclist. On track, he won one gold and two bronze medals in the individual pursuit at the world championships in 1971, 1972 and 1975. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics in the 1 km time trial and finished in 18th place. On the road, he won the Omloop van de Vlaamse Scheldeboorden (1975), Le Samyn (1976), Halle–Ingooigem (1978) and Grote 1-MeiPrijs (1979), as well as one stage of the Tour of Belgium (1974). Zwevegem
Zwevegem () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Heestert, Moen, Otegem, Sint-Denijs and Zwevegem. On January 1, 2019, Zwevegem had a total population of 24,648. The total area is 63.24 km2 which gives a population density of 380 inhabitants per km2. The Bekaert company was founded in Zwevegem by Baron Leon Leander Bekaert. Heestert Military Cemetery holds the graves of 127 Britons and 57 Germans, most of whom died on 21–25 October 1918 in the area during the First World War. The Tour de France () is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. The UCI Track Cycling World Championships are the set of world championship events for the various disciplines and distances in track cycling. They are regulated by the Union Cycliste Internationale. Before 1900, they were administered by the UCI's predecessor, the International Cycling Association (ICA). Current events include: time trial, keirin, individual pursuit, team pursuit, points race, scratch race, sprint, team sprint, omnium and madison. Women's events are generally shorter than men's. The Tour of Belgium ( nl, Ronde van België; french: Tour de Belgique) is a five-day bicycle race which is held annually in Belgium, and is part of the UCI ProSeries. It was held annually between 1908 and 1981, except during both world wars. Between 1982 and 1990 several races were not organised and none at all from 1991 to 2001. From 2002 onwards the race has again become an annual fixture on the cycling calendar. Following the start of the UCI ProTour in 2005 it looked like the race would merge with the Eneco Tour; however this did not happen and it became part of the UCI Europe Tour competition.
