Dioscoride Lanza (24 April 1898 – 28 October 1977) was an Italian racing driver. He entered 30 races between 1936 and 1955 – of which he started 24 – most of them in a Maserati. He submitted an entry in advance of the 1946 Indianapolis 500, but failed to appear for the event. Coppa Acerbo
The Coppa Acerbo was an automobile race held in Italy, named after Tito Acerbo, the brother of Giacomo Acerbo, a prominent fascist politician. Following Italy's defeat in World War II, and the consequent demise of fascism, the race was renamed the Circuito di Pescara, and in some years was also referred to as the Pescara Grand Prix (''Gran Premio di Pescara'') and 12 Hours of Pescara (''12 Ore di Pescara''). The race was run between 1924 and 1961 and over the years was held to a variety of vehicle class regulations and durations. In the Pescara Grand Prix formed a round of the Formula One World Championship, a race which still holds the record as having the longest circuit length ever used for a Championship event. Tripoli Grand Prix
The Tripoli Grand Prix (Italian: ''Gran Premio di Tripoli'') was a motor racing event first held in 1925 on a racing circuit outside Tripoli, the capital of what was then Italian Tripolitania, now Libya. It lasted until 1940. Background Motor racing was an extremely popular sport in Italy and the colony was seeking methods to raise capital and promote tourism—tourists who, it was hoped, would then decide to settle in Tripolitania. But despite the support of the colony's extremely enthusiastic governor, General Emilio de Bono, and some initial success, the events failed financially. Only personal intervention by General de Bono kept the 1929 event from being cancelled, and 1930 was marred by a spartan field, little public interest, and the death of Gastone Brilli-Peri in an accident. Pietro Ghersi
Pietro Ghersi (1899 – 1 January 1972) was an Italian motorcycle racer and, from 1927, also a racecar driver. He was born in Genoa. With his brother Mario Ghersi and Luigi Arcangeli he biked in the 1926 Isle of Man TT and 1930 Isle of Man TT in Moto Guzzi. Racing cars, he won the Spa 24 Hours 1930 with Attilio Marinoni in an Alfa Romeo 6C. In 1932 Ghersi was in the Mille Miglia and XXII Targa Florio in an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300. In 1933, with himself as the only driver, he formed the ''Pietro Ghersi Racing Team'' based in Genova, using a 2.3-liter Bugatti Type 35, a 1.1-liter Maserati monoposto, and a 2.3-liter Alfa Romeo. He raced for Scuderia Ferrari 1934 and privately in a Maserati 8CM 1935-36. He continued until the 1938 season. Prix De Berne
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences.
