Ding Kuong Hiing
Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing (; born 20 January 1955) is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Meradong since May 2016. Previously, he was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia (MP) for Sarikei from March 2008 to May 2013. Political career Ding was elected to Parliament in the 2008 election. After defeating his opponent from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) by 51 votes, he survived a legal challenge to the election in the Election Court, and an appeal to the Federal Court. Before his election, Ding was a staffer to the Chief Minister of Sarawak. In the 2013 election, Ding lost the seat to the DAP's Andrew Wong Ling Biu by 505 votes. 2021 Sarawak State Election
The 2021 Sarawak state election, formally the 12th Sarawak general election, took place on 18 December 2021. This election was to elect 82 members of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on 3 November 2021. As the previous assembly first sat on 7 June 2016, it was originally set to be dissolved automatically on 7 June 2021. However, the 2021 state emergency declaration, preceded by a federal 2021 Malaysian state of emergency declaration nationwide, arising from the 2020–21 political crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, suspended the automatic dissolution of the legislature until the proposed end of the emergency duration on 2 February 2022. 2016 Sarawak State Election
The eleventh Sarawak state election was held on Saturday, 7 May 2016 after nomination for candidates on Monday, 25 April 2016. The 82 members of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, were elected in single-member constituencies using first-past-the-post voting. More than 1.1 million who had their names entered or retained in an electoral register for a particular electoral district in Sarawak was eligible to vote at the time of the election. Malaysia does not practice compulsory voting and automatic voter registration. The voting age is 21 although the age of majority in the country is 18. Wong Ling Biu
Wong Ling Biu ( zh, s=黄灵彪, t=黃靈彪, p=Huáng Língbiāo) is a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sarikei from May 2013 to November 2022. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. On 7 March 2020, Wong was admitted at Sibu Hospital as a patient under investigation (PUI) for COVID-19 and was later tested positive on 15 March 2020. After a 79-day admission including 42 days of coma, Wong was finally discharged on 30 May 2020. His son, the national hammer thrower champion Jackie Wong Siew Cheer, had also contracted the COVID-19 virus from him, was discharged earlier on 27 May after 73 days treatment at the same hospital since 16 March. 2013 Malaysian General Election
General elections were held in Malaysia on Sunday, 5 May 2013 to elect the members of the 13th Parliament. Voting took place in all 222 parliamentary constituencies, each electing one MP to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. State elections also took place in 505 state constituencies in 12 of the 13 states (excluding Sarawak) on the same day. The elections were the first since Najib Razak became Prime Minister in 2009. Democratic Action Party
The Democratic Action Party (abbreviation: DAP; ms, Parti Tindakan Demokratik; ; ta, ஜனநாயக செயல் கட்சி) is a centre-left social democratic political party in Malaysia. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional in the 2018 Malaysian general election, ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition.
