Dimmitt, Texas
Dimmitt ( ) is a city and county seat in Castro County, Texas, United States. Its population was 4,393 at the 2010 census. History Dimmitt is located on the old Ozark Trail, a road system from St. Louis, Missouri, to El Paso, Texas. The Ozark Trail is marked at the courthouse. In 1942, a meteorite was discovered in Castro County and named after the town of Dimmitt. It is one of 311 approved meteorites from Texas. Geography Dimmitt is located slightly west of the center of Castro County at (34.549052, –102.315355). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which , or 3.26%, is covered by water. U.S. Route 385 passes through the city, leading north to Hereford, the seat of Deaf Smith County, and south to Springlake. Texas State Highway 86 crosses US 385 near the center of town and leads east to Tulia and west to Bovina. James Dimmitt
James Albert Dimmitt (21 June 1888 – 29 January 1957) was an Australian politician who was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1938 to 1953. He later served as Agent-General for Western Australia from 1953 until his death. Dimmitt was born in Melbourne, and arrived in Western Australia in 1911, where he began working as a salesman. He eventually became a company director, serving on the boards of a wide variety of companies, including a match company, an insurance company, a coal-mining firm, and an airline ( West Australian Airways). His own company, Armstrong Dimmitt Ltd., sold motor vehicle parts and accessories. Dimmitt was elected to parliament in 1938, representing Metropolitan-Suburban Province. He was appointed chairman of committees in the Legislative Council in 1946, replacing James Cornell. Philip Dimmitt
Philip Dimmitt (1801–1841) was an officer in the Texian Army during the Texas Revolution. Born in Kentucky, Dimmitt moved to Texas in 1823 and soon operated a series of trading posts. After learning that Mexican General Martín Perfecto de Cos was en route to Texas in 1835 to quell the unrest, Dimmitt proposed that the general be kidnapped on his arrival at Copano. The plan was shelved when fighting broke out at Gonzales, but by early October, 1835, it had been resuscitated by a group of volunteers at Matamoros. Not knowing that Cos had already departed for San Antonio de Bexar, this group decided to corner Cos at Presidio La Bahia in Goliad. Dimmitt joined them en route, and participated in the battle of Goliad. Following the battle, Dimmitt assumed command of the Texian forces that remained at Presidio La Bahia.
