Dillon Bates
Dillon Bates (born May 15, 1988) is an American politician, coach, and educator who served as a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 2014 to until his resignation in August 2018. Early life and education Bates is a native of Winterport, Maine, and attended Hampden Academy. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and theatre from the University of Maine, where he participated in sports. Career Bates was a delegate to the 2008 and 2012 Maine Democratic Party Conventions. He interned on Congressman Mike Michaud's 2010 United States House of Representatives elections in Maine, 2010 reelection campaign. Bates worked as a drama teacher at The Maine Girls' Academy and track coach at Massabesic High School. In 2012, Bates unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for District 118 in the Maine House of Representatives, which includes the West End (Portland, Maine), West End neighborhood of Portland, Maine. Maine House Of Representatives
The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well. Maine Department of Education is the state department of education in the U.S. state of Maine. It is headquartered in the Burton Cross State Office Building in Augusta. The Maine Department of Education is responsible for Maine's public education. History From 1854-1913 the Department was mostly a one-person operation. The Maine board of Education was formally constituted in 1949 and legislation soon increased the size of the Department. The state has debated state and federal funding of public education. In 2004 voters approved a measure requiring the state to pay for 55% of the cost of education. In 2016 voters approved the Maine Question 2 ballot measure to tax income earners over $200,000 to fund public education, but this was not implemented. Philip Lester Bartlett II (born September 24, 1976) is an American lawyer and politician from Maine. A Democrat, he served in the Maine Senate from 2004 to 2012, representing the 6th district (Scarborough, Westbrook and his hometown of Gorham).
