Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y de la Cerda, 1st Duke of Francavilla (November 3, 1489, Madrid – March 19, 1578, Toledo) was a Spanish nobleman. He became viceroy of Aragon in 1553 or 1554 – 1564, Chairman of the Council of Italy in 1558, and viceroy of Catalonia. He was the grandson of Cardinal Mendoza and son of Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y Lemos and Ana de la Cerda y Castro. Fernando De Toledo
Fernando de Toledo, (''ca.'' 1528–1591) was a Spanish nobleman. He was the illegitimate and first son of Don Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba, "The Iron Duke", who fathered Fernando de Toledo upon the daughter of a miller of La Aldehuela, in the province of Ávila, Spain. Not until 1546, when Fernando was nineteen years old, did the duke recognize Fernando as his son. This later became the subject of a comedy written by the great Spanish playwright Félix Lope de Vega y Carpio; the title of the play, "Más mal hay en La Aldegüela de lo que sueña" means approximately, "There are worse things in Aldehuela than you have dreamt of". Diego Hurtado de Mendoza (in full, es, Don Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y Lemos, primer conte di Melito e di Aliano, Gran Giustiziere del Regno di Napoli) (1469–1536) was a Castilian general and administrator. He served in the Italian Wars, and was later appointed Viceroy of Valencia where he fought the rebel ''Germanies'' in the Revolt of the Brotherhoods. Early life Diego was the second son of Cardinal Pedro González de Mendoza and Mencia de Lemos (of the House of the Lords of Trofa, in Portugal), making him a member of the powerful Mendoza family.
