Die Heuwels Fantasties
Die Heuwels Fantasties (English: The Hills Fantastic) is an Afrikaans rock band from Bellville, South Africa. The group is made up of Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar, formerly of aKING), Pierre Greeff ( Lukraaketaar), Fred den Hartog (Thieve), and Sheldon Yoko ( Die Gevaar). As of 2022, they have released eight studio albums and four EPs, all on their own record label, Supra Familias. Career ''Die Heuwels Fantasties'': 2009–2010 Die Heuwels Fantasties released their self-titled debut album on 19 March 2009. It includes contributions from Francois Van Coke (Fokofpolisiekar, Van Coke Kartel), Laudo Liebenberg (aKING), Adriaan Brand (Springbok Nude Girls), Neil Basson (Foto na Dans), and Jack Parow. Bellville, South Africa
Bellville is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is situated adjacent to the Koelberg Mountains and also the University of Western Cape where it has its own campus. Established It was founded as "12 Mile Post" (Afrikaans: "12-Myl-Pos") because it is located 12 miles (20 km) from Cape Town city centre. It was first known as "Hardekraaltjie". Founded as a railway station on the line from Cape Town to Stellenbosch and Strand, it was renamed Bellville in 1861 after the surveyor-general Charles Bell. The motor registration number bears the number CY. Springbok Nude Girls
The Springbok Nude Girls (a.k.a. the Nudies, or the Nude Girls) is a rock band from Cape Town, South Africa. An alternative rock band, the Nude Girls introduced punk rock, ska, acid jazz and heavy metal into their songs, introducing a new world of music to the youth of South Africa in the mid-to-late 1990s. They played their first big gig in September 1994 in Stellenbosch. Since then, the Nude girls have toured extensively. In 2000, the band received a South African Music Award for Best Rock Album (''Surpass The Powers''). The Nude Girls were voted the Best South Africa rock band in a poll conducted by South African radio station 5FM. Break up and reformation In 2001 the band announced an indefinite hiatus. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC. The ceremony features live performances as once-off collaborations by a selection of nominees. Awards As of the 26th SAMAs, in 2020, there are a total of thirty categories awarded. MK (channel)
MK was a mostly Afrikaans music channel, launched in mid-2005, as MK89, that is part of the DStv bouquet of satellite channels owned by MultiChoice/M-Net, based in South Africa. MK is for ''Musiek Kanaal'' (Music Channel) and 89 was the original channel number on DStv satellite decoders. When the channel number was changed to 324, the channel was renamed to MK. At the end of July 2013 DSTV cancelled the channel and opted to move it to its audio bouquet due to lack of viewers. MK maintained an active online presence on their YouTube Channel, Facebook Page and Website. Even though the channel does not feature exclusively Afrikaans music, it has seen a tremendous boost for the resurging Afrikaans music scene, especially "indie" type of music. Jack Parow
Zander Tyler (born February 22, 1982), better known under his stage name Jack Parow, is a South African rapper who has collaborated with other South African artists such as Die Heuwels Fantasties, Die Antwoord and Francois Van Coke. Career Parow wanted to be a rapper since he was in primary school. He used to rap with friend Keagan Cloete aka ''cutie cloete'', citing Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle as an initial inspiration as well as the likes of T-Pain. Although he started rapping in English, he soon decided that he preferred Afrikaans. His first hit came with the single ''Cooler as Ekke'' and ''jeffalingaling'', which was promoted by friends in Die Heuwels Fantasties, He collaborated with them on their song ''Die Vraagstuk''. Foto Na Dans (English: Photo After Dance) was a five piece Afrikaans progressive rock band from Bellville, South Africa, fronted by singer/songwriter Le-Roi Nel (vocals, guitar). Other band members are Neil Basson (lead guitar, vocals), John Havemann (bass), Alex Fourie (trumpet, keyboard), and Dirkie Uys (drums). Band formation All of the band members beside Nel were previously in the band, Trompie Is Dood, which won the national highschool Afrikaans rock band competition, ''Rockspaaider'', in 2005. Some band members from Trompie Is Dood went their separate ways which left space for a vocalist; this position was later filled by LeRoi Nel. Afrikaans (, ) is a West Germanic language that evolved in the Dutch Cape Colony from the Dutch vernacular of Holland proper (i.e., the Hollandic dialect) used by Dutch, French, and German settlers and their enslaved people.
