Dick Schweidler
Richard Matthew Schweidler (August 18, 1914 – March 18, 2010) was an American football player who played three seasons with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He attended La Grange High School in La Grange, Illinois. He was also a member of the Chicago Gunners and Montreal Alouettes. Professional career Schweidler played for the Chicago Gunners in 1936. He played for the NFL's Chicago Bears during the 1938, 1939 and 1946 seasons. He played in six games for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 1947. Halfback (American Football)
A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back. When the principal ball carrier lines up deep in the backfield, and especially when that player is placed behind another player (usually a blocking back), as in the I formation, that player is instead referred to as a tailback. Sometimes the halfback can catch the ball from the backfield on short passing plays as they are an eligible receiver. Occasionally, they line up as additional wide receivers. 1946 NFL Season
The 1946 NFL season was the 27th regular season of the National Football League. Before the season, Elmer Layden resigned as NFL Commissioner and Bert Bell, co-founder of the Philadelphia Eagles, replaced him. Meanwhile, the All-America Football Conference was formed to rival the NFL, and the Rams became the first NFL team based on the West Coast after they relocated from Cleveland, Ohio, to Los Angeles, California.
